Marc Jobling: Gameweek 3 Team Reveal

Last modified date

Each Gameweek brings an FPL community team reveal. As a result, that person gives insight into their transfers, captaincy and future plans.

Ahead of Gameweek 3, it’s the turn of Marc Jobling to tell us what is happening to his team.

Hi Marc and thanks for the team reveal. How did Gameweek 2 go?

Better than the opening weekend, which was my worst-ever start. 87 points took me from 4.4 million to around 1.8 million overall, thanks to captain Erling Haaland and 10 points for midfield trio Mohamed Salah, Anthony Gordon and Emile Smith Rowe.

Add in another Trent Alexander-Arnold clean sheet and nine points from Micky van de Ven – outdoing other managers’ Pedro Porro – made it even nicer.

Then again, I regret the Rodrigo Muniz purchase, which wasn’t planned at the time of last week’s team reveal. Dominic Solanke hadn’t yet been ruled out, so Fulham’s forward was a Friday move. Not using Triple Captain on Haaland was bad, whilst I was hurt by not having highly-owned Cole Palmer or any Arsenal defence.

What does your defence look like?

A bit weak, to be honest. Because of the Solanke and Christopher Nkunku fires that needed putting out, I’m unable to bring in Ezri Konsa. Hopefully it can be a week of few clean sheets, where a confident Brighton score past the Gunners.

Dean Henderson and Lewis Hall certainly need to depart at some point, it’s just a matter of when.

Throughout the whole team, fixtures aren’t looking amazing. Although many of my worst weeks take place when they do! So who actually knows?

Meanwhile, what about your midfield and attack?

For multiple reasons, there was huge relief when Gordon equalised last Sunday. Newcastle are looking poor right now – very out of character – and I don’t see the usual heavy home win over Spurs taking place, surely not.

Both Gordon and Alexander Isak are in danger of price drops although I still have full faith in the Swede. He’s one of the best forwards around and being goalless is the fault of team-mates, rather than himself.

Owning Haaland and Salah feels great – FPL’s two highest scorers so far. It was a solid home debut for Smith Rowe but it was frustrating to see Muniz have seven shots inside the box versus Leicester, missing all of them.

So what are your transfer plans for Gameweek 3 and beyond?

It’s been a long time since I’ve done this but Sunday night needed an early transfer, with £0.1m price drops having a more devastating effect at this stage of the season.

I removed Nkunku and opted for Morgan Rogers because he looks great, Aston Villa have brilliant-looking fixtures and it boosts the coffers. There’s now £3.0m in the bank.

However, with a desire to get rid of Gordon, Muniz, Henderson, Hall and van de Ven, I’m already counting down the days until a Gameweek 6 Wildcard. Should situations emerge over the weekend, maybe I’ll have to spend the international break crafting one for Gameweek 4.

Finally, what about captaincy?

As a non-owner of Palmer and Bukayo Saka, nobody stands out. I will probably put armband faith in Haaland even though Salah had a staggering 10 goals and four assists from his last seven meetings with Manchester United.

Good luck and thank you for the team reveal!
