Marc Jobling: Gameweek 29 Team Reveal

Each Gameweek brings an FPL community team reveal. As a result, that person gives insight into their transfers, captaincy and future plans.

Ahead of Gameweek 29, it’s the turn of Marc Jobling to tell us what is happening to his team.

Hi Marc and thanks for the team reveal. How did Gameweek 28 go?

As anticipated, it was a small drop from 274k to 290k. Perhaps, on reflection, it’s a slight surprise, considering 58 points was above average and I captained the week’s joint-top scorer, Mohamed Salah.

Throw in Justin Kluivert’s assist, yet another Daniel Munoz return and the fact that no real rank threats delivered, I’m not entirely sure what went badly. Maybe the few that started Nottingham Forest’s defence versus Man City.

What does your defence look like?

I’m currently on eight players for Blank Gameweek 29, with a full three-man defence in front of goalkeeper David Raya. In theory, that means I can use both free transfers further upfield but not having Forest coverage at Ipswich could prove hurtful.

Meanwhile, what about your midfield and attack?

Thanks to Matheus Cunha’s suspension, I only have four names. Chris Wood, Justin Kluivert and Bryan Mbeumo feel like they’d be in a Free Hit squad anyway, so I’m glad to have those.

Cole Palmer is in horrific form but offers rank protection. Hopefully having both him and two Arsenal defenders means one of those paths will bring a return from their Emirates clash.

So what are your transfer plans for Gameweek 29 and beyond?

Now this is the huge question. To be honest, I still have no idea whether or not to Free Hit. I know the ‘right’ answer among content creators is to save it for later, but I really like the Free Hit 29 and Wildcard 31 idea, where five transfers are collected rather effortlessly by Gameweek 34. It should attack every base.

Then again, the only players I really want are Bruno Fernandes and Nottingham Forest’s defence. Both can’t quite be afforded if only Cunha, Morgan Rogers and Trent Alexander-Arnold are sellable.

And while I don’t like seeing others buy Erling Haaland, it’s not really the fixture I want because Brighton are good. A Free Hit still wouldn’t have him versus Leicester in Gameweek 30.

Maybe one transfer purchases the safety of a Forest defender and the other on an exciting punt like Evanilson, Alejandro Garnacho, Morgan Gibbs-White or Omar Marmoush. Possibly Beto but I now see his match being low-scoring.

I don’t want to spend points on players there for just two Gameweeks. But are these two precious free transfers being wasted on punts when the Free Hit 29 and Wildcard 31 plan saves them for proper usage later?

Finally, what about captaincy?

At least I know this decision. It’s a week where every captain can bring a huge boost. As affording Fernandes looks unlikely, I’ll be handing my armband to Wood.

Good luck and thank you for the team reveal!
