Marc Jobling: Gameweek 21 Team Reveal
Each Gameweek brings an FPL community team reveal. As a result, that person gives insight into their transfers, captaincy and future plans.
Ahead of Gameweek 21, it’s the turn of Marc Jobling to tell us what is happening to his team.
Hi Marc and thanks for the team reveal. How did Gameweek 20 go?
Very badly. Last time I spoke about my team, there was positivity because three green arrows had taken it from 756k to 433k but – in another case of every player I wanted to blank deciding to do well – a lot of that has been undone in one.
Without Bryan Mbeumo’s 19 points or anybody from Nottingham Forest, the team is down to 595k. I’m just sick of the constant unluckiness, really.
What does your defence look like?
On paper, it’s fine. The bedrock of Trent Alexander-Arnold and double Arsenal can turn it on at any time, plus I’m almost certain to use one of my two free transfers on improving Levi Colwill.
For Everton’s upcoming Double Gameweek, I’m keeping Vitalii Mykolenko around – let’s hope new manager David Moyes favours him, rather than buy someone else.
Meanwhile, what about your midfield and attack?
I feel likes it’s almost there and, with three transfers to use by the weekend, the weaknesses of Antoine Semenyo and Nicolas Jackson could go away. But the Chelsea forward has three of his next four outings at home, so there’s blind faith that a goal or two must be coming.
As for Semenyo, I’m absolutely sick of owning him. It’s been a horrible experience and selling him is complicated by the likelihood that he’ll briefly play up front while Bournemouth seek a replacement for their injured frontmen.
Furthermore, I really need Joao Pedro to be ok. Not hearing from Fabian Hurzeler until after the deadline is an obstacle but at least Morgan Rogers is a strong substitute to come in, if needed.
So what are your transfer plans for Gameweek 21 and beyond?
There’s £3.0m in the bank and my initial thought for replacing Semenyo was Mbeumo. But buying the player straight after his haul doesn’t sit right, especially when Anthony Gordon has the better immediate fixtures.
Yet Gordon goes against my ‘no Newcastle’ rule, especially when I’ve had to buy Alexander Isak reluctantly. It’ll either be him or a Manchester United midfielder, I think.
Replacing Colwill will be Daniel Munoz, as I find his recent attacking numbers to be ludicrous. Great fixtures until early April, too.
Finally, what about captaincy?
The graphic says Mohamed Salah because I hate cheering against him when I’m already progressing without Wood, Mbeumo or Lewis Hall. Even if content creators unanimously pick either Isak or Cole Palmer, the Egyptian’s EO will still far exceed 100%.
However, if I feel brave and decide that a tricky trip to Nottingham Forest is a good time to bet against Salah, my choice would be Isak.
