Marc Jobling: Gameweek 20 Team Reveal
Each Gameweek brings an FPL community team reveal. As a result, that person gives insight into their transfers, captaincy and future plans.
Ahead of Gameweek 20, it’s the turn of Marc Jobling to tell us what is happening to his team.
Hi Marc and thanks for the team reveal. How did Gameweek 19 go?
There have been three rounds of action since my last reveal and I’m happy to report that each has seen a green arrow, moving from 756k to 433k.
My trio of Gameweek 17 transfers brought deadline regrets of my early Morgan Rogers purchase but he immediately delivered 14 points versus Man City. He hauled again in Gameweek 19, proving to be great value for money.
Mohamed Salah was captained all three times, contributing a mammoth 92 points, while Matheus Cunha’s dozen was the main reason for my Gameweek 18 rise. I then made a risky decision to sell the in-form Brazilian for Alexander Isak but it’s paid dividends – downgrading Bukayo Saka to Ismaila Sarr allows me to have both Isak and Nicolas Jackson up front.
Naturally, the Chelsea forward has blanked in all three matches since buying him. Benched at Ipswich, his one-point cameo prevented an Antoine Semenyo autosub, continuing the painful trend where the Bournemouth midfielder fails every time I start him but grabs an attacking return whenever sidelined.
What does your defence look like?
It’s almost there. I like the hopefully long-term solidity of two Arsenals plus Trent Alexander-Arnold. Perhaps Levi Colwill was a poor transfer, even though he’s contributed one assist and one clean sheet in four matches. I simply want others like Antonee Robinson and Daniel Munoz instead.
Meanwhile, what about your midfield and attack?
Determined to not buy any Newcastle players as a supporter, I reluctantly bought Isak after watching him become absolutely essential. He joins Salah and Cole Palmer as attacking pillars to build around.
I like the Sarr purchase, despite blanking at home to Southampton. His expected goal involvement (xGI) was 0.95 and fixtures look good for a while.
Slight concerns are developing over Joao Pedro, who is goalless in seven matches. But at least he contributed a couple of Gameweek 19 assists.
So what are your transfer plans for Gameweek 20 and beyond?
I would’ve rolled had Rogers not picked up a fifth yellow card, meaning he’s suspended for the home clash with Leicester. It’s irritating, as I need to start both Sarr v Chelsea and Joao Pedro v Arsenal.
There’s £3.0m in the bank to eventually upgrade whoever disappoints most out of Sarr and Semenyo.
Frustrated with Jackson, I should give him a little bit longer before ditching. As mentioned, the lack of Fulham or Crystal Palace defenders may need fixing.
Finally, what about captaincy?
It’s got to be Salah. He’s having an absurd FPL season, reaching 200 points in just 18 matches – 14 of which ended with a score of at least nine. He loves facing Man United too, bagging 11 goals and six assists from their last eight clashes.
