Leicester were clearly the best side in the Championship last season after securing both first place and the Championship title. Spearheading that success was former manager Enzo Maresca who has recently joined Chelsea. Steve Cooper is now at the helm for Leicester and he will be hoping to solidify Leicester’s Premier League status.

24/25 Starting Fixtures

Below we can see the Fantasy Football Scout Fixture Ticker. 15th on the ticker suggests that Leicester have a very difficult start to the new season. They face meetings with Tottenham, Fulham, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Everton and Arsenal in their first six matches.

Leicester were hugely dominant last season but defensively that wasn’t always the case as they ranked (best):

Comparing the Leicester Defensive Players

Comparing all of the Leicester defensive assets is crucial in picking out the best options. With that in mind we take a look at their minutes and attacking threat.

The Leicester defensive players rank in the following order for gametime last season:

1st – Mads Hermansen (£4.5m) – 3960 minutes
2nd – Wout Faes (£4m) – 3825 minutes
3rd – Jannik Vestergaard (£4m) – 3718 minutes
4th – Ricardo Pereira (£4.5m) – 3278 minutes
5th – James Justin (£4.5m) – 2616 minutes

We then compared the Leicester defenders for attacking threat:

1st – Ricardo Pereira – Six
2nd – James Justin – Four
3rd – Wout Faes – Two
4th – Vannik Vestergaard – Two

Additional Notes

Victor Kristiansen was fantastic for Bologna last season and has since returned from his loan spell. The Dane can play both at left-back/left wing-back and right-back/right wing-back so it could be interesting to monitor his pre-season position and minutes.

Leicester also have significant depth in centre-back with the likes of Conor Coady (£4m) and Harry Souttar (£4m). With that in mind it could be wise to see if Faes or Pereira’s minutes are affected.

Conclusion

Taking into account the lack of attacking threat across the backline and the fact that the full-backs are £0.5m more than the centre-backs then the standout option could well be Wout Faes. Faes appears least likely to lose his position at centre-back and comes in at just £4m

Jannik Vestergaard is also a viable option if he can keep his place as one of two first team centre-backs.

We now turn our attention to the Leicester attacking assets. When comparing their attackers for minutes played last season they rank:

1st – Harry Winks (£4.5m) – 4039 minutes
2nd – Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – 3636 minutes
3rd – Stephy Mavididi (£5.5m) – 3587 minutes
4th – Abdul Fatawu (£5.5m) – 2814 minutes
5th – Jamie Vardy (£5.5m) – 1768 minutes

We then ranked them for attacking returns and they sit as follows:

1st – Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – 26
2nd – Jamie Vardy – 20
3rd – Abdul Fatawu – 19
4th – Stephy Mavididi – 18

Additional Notes

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall proved to be one Leicester’s most reliable attackers for both gametime and attacking returns last season. However, he has since joined Chelsea which of course rules him out completely.

Conclusion

There’s no telling how Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s departure will affect the Leicester attack. However, based on the above the standout attacking option could well be Stephy Mavididi who seems reliable for both minutes and attacking returns.

Jamie Vardy will also be a consideration. Not only did he manage 20 goal contributions in under 2000 minutes played but he also takes his sides penalties.

Another option to consider is midfielder Abdul Fatawu who bagged close to 20 attacking returns whilst playing just under 3000 minutes.
