How to Play FIFA Club World Cup Fantasy (2025 Guide for Beginners)

Not sure how to play FIFA Club World Cup Fantasy? Well, you’re in the right place. We look through the basics, from selecting your team and valid formations to captaincy and chips.

The fantasy football community has already started showing keen interest towards the recently launched Club World Cup game. So, knowing how to play will be absolutely key for both fun and success.

How to Play FIFA Club World Cup Fantasy

It’s free to play. You’ll need a FIFA account to save and submit your team. You can create one anytime – even after setting up your squad.

Creating Your Team

You’ll get $100 million to pick 15 players from a predefined list. Each has a set price. Your team must include:

  • 2 Goalkeepers
  • 5 Defenders
  • 5 Midfielders
  • 3 Forwards

Club limits change by tournament stage:

  • Group Stage: Max 3 per club
  • Round of 16: Max 4
  • Quarter-finals: Max 5
  • Semi-finals: Max 6
  • Final: Max 8

Use the + icon to add players, or the X to remove them. You can also auto-fill your team. Your captain will default to the most expensive player, with the second most expensive as vice-captain.

Your squad starts in a 4-4-2 formation but adjusts as you make changes. You can switch to any of the following: 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 4-5-1, 3-4-3, 3-5-2, 5-4-1, 5-3-2

You can edit your squad freely until the first match kicks off at 8:00 PM (local time) on Saturday, June 14, 2025.

Budget and Prices

Each user starts with $100m. For the knockout rounds, this increases to $105m to reflect higher player values. Prices are fixed and won’t change during the tournament.

Captains and Vice-Captains

Each matchday, choose a captain (scores double) and vice-captain (back-up if captain doesn’t play). You can change captains as long as the new one hasn’t played yet.

You lose the double points from the original captain if you switch after they’ve played.

Substitutions

Manual Subs

Swap starting players with unused bench players anytime, as long as the formation stays valid. You’ll only get points from whoever is in the final line-up.

Auto Subs

If you make no manual changes during a matchday, bench players can automatically replace DNPs, in priority order, at the end of the matchday.

Manual changes cancel auto subs.

Sub Rules Recap

  • You can sub in players who haven’t played yet.
  • Once a player’s match has started, they are “locked.”
  • You can’t sub in or out two locked players.
  • You can’t sub in a bench player who’s already played.

Boosters (chips)

Each team gets four one-time-use boosters:

  • Wildcard – Unlimited transfers in a single round (not available in Group Matchday 1 or Round of 16).
  • 12th Man – Adds one extra player whose points count (no budget or team limits).
  • Maximum Captain – Highest-scoring player gets double points automatically.
  • Mystery Booster – Unlocks in the knockout rounds after Matchday 3.

All boosters except Wildcard can be deactivated before the matchday lock.
