How to Play Fantasy Bundesliga in 2025/26

This article explains exactly how to play Fantasy Bundesliga in 2025/26. You’ll learn how to build your squad, score points, make transfers, and take advantage of the game’s unique rules. If you’re starting fresh or looking to sharpen your edge this season, this guide covers everything you need.

Helping us today is Fantasy Bundesliga expert @Big4FPL who takes us through it and shares his view along the way.

How to Play Fantasy Bundesliga in 2025/26

Overview

Firstly, if you’re new to the game and worried about jumping into a fresh game/strategy – don’t be! This game and its rules have now changed three times in three seasons with the rules changed AGAIN for the current season. So, everyone is in the same boat of trying to work out the best strategy.

Squad Selection

How to Play Fantasy Bundesliga in 2025/26

Squads selection consists of selecting 15 players, for an initial 150m budget and a formation. Unlike other fantasy games you do not need to worry about your bench/it’s order. This is because the game will automatically allocate your strongest XI of your 15 players.

As an example, 442 has been the most popular formation with this ruleset. This is because it effectively means that you have one bench player in each position (GK, DEF, MID, STR) that can auto-sub in to your team if one of your players flops.

The key to the above is ensuring a strong 15, rather than just a strong 11, as it provides you additional upside to take a punt. If your midfield punt flops then he stays on your bench. If he goes and bags a brace in outscoring your starting four midfielders then he replaces your weakest scorer.

Point Scoring

Unlike traditional fantasy games, Fantasy Bundesliga’ scoring counts a load of key metrics. They range from standard goals and assists, to crosses, passes into the middle third, to aerial and ground duals.

The result of this is that players like Kimmich and Xhaka can be even more prolific than your Harry Kane’s under the right conditions. Funnily enough, despite all these metrics, clean sheets are NOT part of the scoring in this game!

The point scoring changed again this year, which @aldosahala has already usefully summarized below:

Key adjustments have been added for two reasons:

  1. Strikers were not great assets last season with the old scoring model. Harry Kane was comfortably the top scorer in the league. Yet he could only just crack the top 10 point scorers for the season. Often defenders would outscore Kane from duals alone, despite conceding 2-3 goals. The new system has attempted to adjust this by giving strikers more points for the actions they produce. Will this rebalance the game? We’ll soon find out…
  2. Goalkeepers were also fairly useless and unpredictable assets last season. With no clean sheet points the goalkeepers really rely on matches where they make 5+ saves and only concede 1-2 goals. With additional points added for claimed crosses, saves and long passes the hope would be we can give more thought to our GK position.

Ultimately the cream always rises to the top – players like Musiala, Olise, Kane etc will always score well. But, the point scoring in this game allows for more assets to be successful fantasy assets than the traditional format.

It also means fantasy managers need to be prepared for a “good score” of an individual player being over 200 points (consisting of many different actions). This is rather than a simple scoring system where you might only see five points for an appearance plus assist. For reference, Guirassy hit a score of over 700 when he hit a hattrick last year. That was a real season killer if you didn’t own!

Star Players (Captaincy)

A unique aspect of BL Fantasy is you get to pick a “captain” (known as star player) from each position (DEF, MID, STR). Each star player scores an additional 50% of their total points e.g 1.5x multiplier on their score.

Note that your star player will NOT move if your sub player is auto subbed for your flop of a star player – so choose wisely!

Transfers

International breaks are usually a dull period for fantasy managers. But in Bundesliga fantasy you get the luxury of a free wildcard/unlimited transfer window each time a break comes. Note that there are no other chips/periods where you will get unlimited transfers, so these periods are key.

Outside of the unlimited transfer windows, users get five free transfers a week. This provides a lot of flexibility to target the current 1-2 matchdays. This is rather than traditionally planning long term – you effectively have the capacity to change your entire squad over three rounds!

Note that these cannot be rolled. So, if you don’t use all five in a week they will be gone.

New to this season they have also added the ability to underdo transfers. This is a big help if you like doing your transfers as soon as the Matchday opens in case you are unavailable around the deadline.

*NEW – Daily Login Bonus and Price Increases

What fantasy game doesn’t come with a controversial rule? New to this season, and perhaps somewhat controversially, BL Fantasy has added a daily login bonus that if you login every day for five consecutive days each Matchday you can receive an additional 0.5m in budget. How will this impact and why did they add this…who knows, but be sure to make use of it to capitalize on those who don’t!

Last season the prices of players and thus our 150m budget remained the same all season. Price rises depending on performance have been added back into the game this year, which only emphasizes the importance of the daily login bonus if you want to maximize the best squad you can select.

We don’t yet know how these rises will be determined. But, in old variations of the game price rises were determined by a player’s weekly score vs the positions weekly average.

Conclusion

Bundesliga Fantasy is a significantly different game to any other currently on the market. But, it’s also a lot of fun because of this!

Instead of sulking over your midfield blank, you may be celebrating that he took five shots that accumulated 75 points alone!

It also adds an additional layer of strategy when choosing between players, evening the playing field between the likes of creative fullbacks who accumulate assists vs rock-solid centre backs who win 10 aerial duals a game.

Note the game is only available as an app (the website was closed down) but is free to download and get involved!
