Defensive Contribution Points
Defensive Contribution Points have been introduced in Fantasy to reward outfield players who make a big impact defensively, even if they don’t grab a goal or assist.
- Defenders will earn two bonus points if they hit a combined total of 10 or more clearances, blocks, interceptions (CBI), and tackles in a single match.
- Midfielders and forwards can also earn two points if they reach 12 or more in the same stats, with recoveries also included in their total.
Clean Sheets
Players earn clean sheet points if they play 60 minutes or more (not including stoppage time) without conceding a goal while they’re on the pitch.
If they’re subbed off before a goal is conceded, they still keep their clean sheet points.
Red Cards
A red card means a player will keep losing points for any goals their team concedes after they’ve been sent off.
The red card penalty also includes any points lost from previous yellow cards in the same match.
Assists in FPL – How They Work
In Fantasy Premier League, an assist is usually given to the player who made the final touch before a teammate scores – this can be a pass, an accidental touch, or even a shot.
Passes
- If a pass deflects off a defender and reaches the goalscorer inside the box, an assist is given.
- If the pass is deflected outside the box, the assist only counts if the ball still reaches the intended player who then scores.
- No assist is awarded if the ball takes two or more defensive touches or if a defender intentionally passes the ball.
- If the goalscorer loses and regains the ball before scoring, an assist is not given.
Accidental Touches
- An unintended or lucky touch can still count as an assist – but only if it directly leads to a goal.
Shots and Rebound
- If a goal comes after a save, block, or rebound off the post/bar, the player who took the original shot or cross-shot gets the assist.
- It doesn’t matter if the shot was off target or slightly deflected – the assist still stands.
- However, if an opponent significantly touches the ball after the rebound, the assist is not awarded.
Own Goals
- If a player touches the ball just before an own goal, they’re credited with an assist – this can be a pass, touch, or shot.
- An assist still counts if the own goal follows a deflected pass or rebound from a save or the woodwork.
- But if the ball is touched twice or passed by a defender before the own goal, no assist is given.
Penalties and Free-Kicks
- If a player wins a penalty or free-kick and a teammate scores from it, the player who won it earns the assist.
- If the same player wins and scores, no assist is given.
Final Review
All assist points are provisional during matches and can change up to one hour after the last game of the Gameweek.
After that, no further updates will be made — unless something major happens.
Final decisions on assists are made by FPL in partnership with Stats Perform.

Bonus Points Explained
The Bonus Points System (BPS) tracks a range of in-game stats to rate each player’s overall performance. At the end of every match, the top three players based on their BPS score are awarded bonus points:
- 1st place gets three bonus points
- 2nd place gets three bonus points
- 3rd place gets one bonus point
How Ties Are Handled:
- Tie for 1st: Both players get three points, and the next best gets one point.
- Tie for 2nd: First place still gets three points, and both tied players get two points.
- Tie for 3rd: The top two get three and two points as normal, and all players tied for third get one point each.
The system ensures that top performers are rewarded fairly – even when scores are level.
