GW23 Team Reveal – Ryan (Football Chatbox)

Ahead of Gameweek 23, it’s the turn of Ryan (Football Chatbox) to tell us what they intend to do with their team.
Hi, Ryan. So how did your Gameweek 22 go?
Gameweek 22 went well. I ended on 72 points and a green arrow thanks to being a Bruno Fernandes owner- unfortunately I captained Cristiano Ronaldo instead of him. I’m now at an overall rank of 13,039th and hoping I can get back into that top 10k bracket.
Are you pleased with your current squad? Who is a player you’d like to own but don’t?
Not really, its got a few problems that need fixing, especially in defence. However, all the recent postponements have made planning for the mid-to-long term much more difficult and it has meant that I’ve had to fix fires in my squad and keep players around because at least they had a fixture.
Right now, the player I most want is Kevin De Bruyne. He has been performing well over the last few fixtures and it seems like he is back to being the FPL asset we all knew he could be. However, with Mo Salah likely back for GW24 and Aston Villa potentially doubling in GW23, it means I probably won’t be looking to purchase him. However, if Villa don’t double, I might be tempted to swap Fernandes for captain KDB.
What are your transfer plans for Gameweek 23 and beyond?
It all depends on Villa. I could bring in Lucas Digne for Marcos Alonso and possibly also Ollie Watkins for a hit – in place of either Ronaldo or Michail Antonio. I’m yet to decide on that and will likely wait until closer to the deadline. After that, I’ll be looking at how to fit Salah back in, ideally for GW24 but definitely by GW25.
And finally, what about captaincy?
This seems to be a tough Gameweek for predicting a captain. With my current squad I’m not sure. Right now, it’s on Bruno but it could also go to Joao Cancelo, Trent Alexander-Arnold, a newly-bought De Bruyne or a Double Gameweek option from Aston Villa.
