Could Neco Williams be great in FPL?
Gossip and rumours within the transfer market seem to be heating up as we edge closer to the start of the season. Neco Williams has been strongly linked with Nottingham Forest by multiple reliable sources. Here we see what that could mean for FPL.
Here is David Ornstein breaking the news regarding Neco Williams to Nottingham Forest:
Nottingham Forest
Steve Cooper pulled Nottingham Forest from the lower ends of the Championship table last season. After mounting a successful promotion charge the Nottingham Forest manager made his system work well and hard to beat.
Nottingham Forest usually played with a back three of Scott McKenna, Steve Cook and Joe Worrall especially towards the end of their season. This meant that wing backs were used, Jack Colback on the left and Djed Spence on the right (reportedly leaving to join Spurs).
Steve Cooper and Nottingham Forest are highly likely to keep the same system going into the Premier League. This means that buying into their wingbacks could have lots of potential in FPL.
Neco Williams
After his loan signing from Liverpool ended at Fulham in the campaign gone Neco Williams will now be looking for a direct route to first team football. The versatile defender can play in both a back four at right back, like we have seen with Fulham and also left wing-back in a back three like we have seen at Wales.
For Fulham in the season gone Neco Williams scored two goals and created two assists in his 14 starts. The Welshman was also averaging 1.4 shots per match, impressive from right back.
Playing for Wales at left wing back the 21 year old played seven World Cup qualifiers. After scoring one goal and creating one assist Welsh fans saw both growth and offensive drive. At wing back Williams also notched up an average of 1.7 shots per match, higher than his time at Fulham.
What this could mean in FPL?
The young defender comes in at a hugely exciting price of £4m. FPL managers across the board are constantly on the lookout for a £4m defender to enable the rest of the squad but will FPL managers be given more than that?
Being able to play either side of the pitch only helps Neco Williams cause in terms of minutes. Nottingham Forest look likely to sell Spence and also have an aging Colback to manage. With this in mind FPL managers could well have themselves a nailed £4m wing back.
Williams attacking potential is clear in his stats in different systems. With that in mind and the fact Nottingham Forest kept a cool 17 clean sheets last season, Neco Williams could well be an amazing find for FPL managers.
