Gameweek 8 best wildcard
We look at the Gameweek 8 best wildcard team. Using the Fantasy Football Scout season ticker we can see which teams have the best run of fixtures. This can then aid FPL managers in picking out some of the best assets for the run ahead.
The wildcard gives managers the opportunity to change their entire team for any reason. Managers activate their wildcards for several reasons. Whether that be to target fixture swings or just change their team up, the wildcard can be precious to your planning.

Gameweek 8 best wildcard
Goalkeepers
- Matt Turner (£4m) – Continues to start for his side even with the arrival of a new goalkeeper. His sides fixtures rotate well with the West Ham schedule. The Nottingham Forest man is very cheap and with the poor performances overall from goalkeepers in the game, spending as little as possible could be wise.
- Alphonse Areola (£4.2m) – Also very cheap which helps to enable the rest of the squad. As mentioned he is paired with Turner for managers to rotate around tougher fixtures.
Defenders
- Kieran Trippier (£6.7m) – Owning a Newcastle defender just isn’t enough to cover this man. No defender in the league has created more chances or big chances this season. The full-back also bagged 38 points in his last three matches with the help of four assists and two clean sheets.
- Destiny Udogie (£4.8m) – Tottenham have some fantastic fixtures coming up and their full-backs are some of the most attacking in the league. With that in mind and taking into account he is one of the cheapest defenders at Tottenham then Udogie could be a fantastic pick.
- Matty Cash (£4.9m) – Aston Villa’ fixtures are starting to ease and results seem to be improving. The most effective way into the Aston Villa defence is Cash who ranks above every other defender in the game for non-penalty expected goal involvement.
- Fabian Schar (£5.1m) – Newcastle were one of the best defences in the league last season and we are starting to see signs of that recently. They managed three back-to-back clean sheets in their last three and Schar is a great way to benefit from that as well as having some goal threat from set-plays.
- Amari’i Bell (£4m) – The Luton man is one of the cheapest and most reliable in terms of minutes in the game. It is unlikely he will ever feature but sits there just incase.
Midfielders
- Son Heung-min (£9.3m) – Son leads the free-scoring Tottenham frontline and has some brilliant fixtures to attack. Not only does he take his sides penalties but he has also accumulated 43 points since moving into his advanced position.
- James Maddison (£7.3m) – Maddison is amongst the top five players in the division so far for non-penalty expected goal involvement. He is the creative hub for his side and his FPL output reflects that – so far he has banked four returns in his first seven games.
- Bruno Fernandes (£8.4m) – He faces some of the worst defences in the league over the next several rounds. Because of that the inclusion of Manchester United attacker, as frustrating as they have been, may be a wise decision. He takes his sides penalties and sits as one of the most creative players in the league.
- Moussa Diaby (£6.7m) – Monitoring news regarding his minor injury could be vital here. The Aston Villa fixtures look great and one player who could be worth the inclusion is Diaby who has collected four returns in seven matches so far.
- Pedro Neto (£5.6m) – Wolves rank highly on the ticker for the period ahead. They may not be a hugely convincing team but they have a good schedule and potentially a perfect enabler. Neto has managed to return in each and everyone one of his last five matches.
Forwards
- Erling Haaland (£14.1m) – Not only does Haaland play for the best side in the league but he also takes their penalties and leads their frontline. The Norwegian has been maintaining better attacking stats than every other player in the game.
- Ollie Watkins (£8m) – Aston Villa have good fixtures to attack ahead and this is their main man. Watkins has been one of the most consistent assets in the game since the start of the campaign – returning in every other game bar one. He also sits as the highest scoring player in the game.
- Darwin Nunez (£7.4m) – The injury to Cody Gakpo and ban to Diogo Jota could indicate that Nunez has potential to maintain more minutes. Finding a way into the lethal Liverpool attack without sacrificing other great options could be key and Nunez could be the best player to do that. It also helps that he ranks joint second for big chances total amongst forwards this season.
