Gameweek 16 Best Free Hit Team
As we approach Gameweek 16 of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season, let’s try to build its best Free Hit team. To do this, we’re using the fantastic organisational tool of PlanFPL.
One of several chips provided by the game, the Free Hit is an opportunity to select a squad for one Gameweek only. Afterwards, it’s back to your original, regular team.
For FPL managers, it’s an extremely useful weapon.
Fixtures
Below is Fantasy Football Scout’s ranking of Gameweek 16 fixture difficulty.
Who has the best fixtures?
Any impatience with Wolves assets needs to wait, as they’re about to face Ipswich then Leicester. As for Spurs and Newcastle, their volatile unpredictability was perfectly summarised by the way they lost in Gameweek 15. But up next for them are promoted duo Southampton and Leicester respectively.
Who has the worst fixtures?
It’s definitely a weekend to bench Everton’s Vitalii Mykolenko (£4.3m) and there’s a dilemma for those with Man United assets. A trip to Man City is naturally a ‘red’ fixture but the champions are out of form and it’s a derby.
Best Gameweek 16 Free Hit
Using the PlanFPL website, here is the best Free Hit team for Gameweek 16:
Goalkeepers
With goal-scoring defender Gabriel (£6.2m) absent in consecutive matches, perhaps David Raya (£5.5m) is a safer route into Arsenal’s backline. The clean sheets have started reappearing again, collecting two in four matches. They’re at home to a goal-shy Everton that – until uncharacteristically thrashing Wolves 4-0 – hadn’t netted in four games.
Defenders
That doesn’t reflect well on Rayan Ait-Nouri‘s (£4.9m) prospects. It’s safe to say he’s somewhat disappointed since bursting into FPL popularity but, as one of the best defenders for goals (three) and attempts (14), he’s worth sticking with when at home to Ipswich.
Yet the 25 shots of Pedro Porro (£5.6m) are way ahead of him and the rest. He’s even delivered three attacking returns in his latest five outings, so the Southampton trip is full of potential at both ends.
Milos Kerkez (£4.6m) has a goal, two assists and two clean sheets in six matches, while benched duo Sepp van den Berg (£4.1m) and Dara O’Shea (£4.0m) are simply there for appearance points.
Midfielders
Meanwhile, the heavyweight midfield is unmovable for Gameweek 16. Mohamed Salah (£13.3m) is fresh from a postponed match, on 10 double-digit hauls from 14. The only person to reach that number throughout all of 2023/24 was Cole Palmer (£11.1m) and he’s trying his best to replicate, bagging four goals and two assists in his last three outings. He’s at home to a leaky Brentford who remain winless on the road.
Bukayo Saka (£10.5m) is on successive blanks but there’ll be confidence in returns at home to Everton. Perhaps that same positivity isn’t around for Antoine Semenyo (£5.7m), who has been frustrating to own. He’s still the player with the second-most shots (58) so far but keeps failing to score.
Forwards
Up front, expect the price rises and goals to keep coming for Alexander Isak (£8.6m). He’ll be one of the week’s most-bought.
Like Matheus Cunha (£7.1m), his next two appearances will be against Leicester and Ipswich, just in a different order. The Wolves forward will be hoping to get back on the scoresheet tonight versus West Ham.
Finally, Dominic Solanke (£7.5m). He varies between blanking at home to Ipswich, hauling past Champions League side Aston Villa, late illnesses and scoring early against Chelsea. Another infuriating asset to own, at least the trip to Southampton is – in theory – promising.
