Goalkeepers

Maintaining a better defence than any other side this season, Liverpool could be a priority in terms of investment heading into the new round. Contributing towards their defence recently is back-up goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher (£4.6m).

If Kelleher fails to feature then West Ham’ Lukasz Fabianski (£4.1m) will step in off the bench. He faces Wolves at home this week.

Defenders

At the time of writing, Everton have failed to score in any of their last four league matches, displaying considerable bluntness in front of goal. Because of this, doubling up on the Liverpool defence could be rewarding this week and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£6.9m) also offers attacking potential.

Arsenal appear to be back to their best, or at least close to it. The Gooners have been brilliant recently, and sustained the best defence in the last campaign. With Fulham ahead, Arsenal could well keep a clean sheet, so doubling up with centre-backs Jurrien Timber (£5.5m) and Gabriel (£6.2m). The former produced an assist in the Champions League recently, whilst the latter has scored five goals in all competitions this season.

On the bench is Aston Villa centre-back Ezri Konsa (£4.4m) and Bournemouth full-back Milos Kerkez (£4.5m). Both players face poor opposition at home, so could be great options of the bench if needed.

Midfielders

Playing the worst side in the league, Aston Villa clash with Southampton at home this week. The Saints have been terrible defensively and Morgan Rogers (£5.3m) is the cheapest and most reliable route into the attack.

With back-to-back double-digit hauls in his last two matches, Bukayo Saka (£10.4m) goes into his next match in excellent form. The Arsenal penalty taker faces an inconsistent Fulham defence, which could see him continue to impress.

Another heavy hitter, and arguably the standout, is Mohamed Salah (£13.2m). The Egyptian has amassed a whopping nine double-digit hauls already this season, so could be seen as an essential this week. He is also a standout captaincy option against Liverpool’ local rivals Everton.

The top performing midfield trio is complete with the addition of Chelsea’ Cole Palmer (£11m). Going without Palmer, even against Tottenham, could be a big mistake. The penalty taker has already surpassed the 100-point mark in FPL due to his fantastic form this season.

Bournemouth face the worst defence in the league when it comes to total big chances conceded. Whilst Antoine Semenyo is tempting, penalty taker Justin Kluivert‘ (£5.4m) recent 20-point haul in Gameweek 13 tips the scales in his favour.

Forwards

Spearheading the Aston Villa attack heading into their fixture against a poor Southampton is Ollie Watkins (£9m). With six goals and two assists already registered this season, Watkins will be hoping to add to that this week.

Leicester have been poor defensively this season – ranking amongst the worst three sides for multiple defensive metrics. With this in mind and their form this season, backing the Brighton frontline could be beneficial. Taking that into account, along with his two double-digit hauls, penalty taker Joao Pedro (£5.7m) makes his way into the starting XI.

On the bench and unlikely to feature is Leicester’ Patson Daka (£4.8m), who helps enable funds elsewhere.
