Goalkeepers

The lack of clean sheets may suggest going cheap at the back a wise move. Between the sticks is Jordan Pickford (£4.8m). Pickford faces a Southampton side who have lost all but one of their matches so far and are unbeaten in their previous five matches.

Backing up Jordan Pickford and sitting on the bench is Nottingham Forest Matz Selz (£4.5m). He will come in in the unlikely event that Pickford doesn’t feature.

Defenders

Leading every other defender in the game for chances created and big chances created is Leif Davis (£4.5m). With fellow promoted side Leicester ahead Davis goes into the game with both attacking and defensive potential.

Scoring three goals and registering one assist in his previous four matches Rayan Ait-Nouri (£4.5m) is the most in-form defender in terms of attacking output currently. Ait-Nouri faces a poor Crystal Palace at home which could be a good opportunity for him to continue his form.

Another asset who has proven attacking threat is Rico Lewis (£4.7m) who has racked up four assists this campaign already. Lewis is the cheapest and most reliable route into the Manchester City defence and has a good fixture against Bournemouth this week.

On the bench and helping to enable the team financially is Everton’s Vitalii Mykolenko (£4.3m) and Ipswich’s Cameron Burgess (£3.9m).

Midfielders

In scintillating form this season it would be difficult to exclude Brentford talisman and penalty taker Bryan Mbeumo (£7.7m). Mbeumo has racked up a huge eight goals in his first nine league matches.

Another player in top form is Liverpool penalty taker Mohamed Salah (£12.6m). The Egyptian has collected a jaw-dropping six double-digit hauls in his nine games. He faces an inconsistent Brighton defence up next.

No side have conceded more shots on target than Brentford this season, so investing in the Fulham frontline could be rewarding. FPL managers could opt for former Arsenal attacker Emile Smith Rowe (£5.7m) who goes into Gameweek 10 off the back of an assist in his previous match.

Newcastle continue to leak goals which title challenge Arsenal could take advantage off. To do this and amongst the likely returns will be penalty taker Bukayo Saka (£10m). Saka has been one of the most consistent assets in the game this season – banking a return in all but one of his matches so far.

Amongst the worst teams in the league for most underlying defensive metrics is the woeful Southampton. The Saints are struggling and that is something Everton midfielder Dwight McNeil (£5.8m) can scrutinise if confirmed fit.

Forwards

Captaining the side and spearheading the most potent attack in the league for goals is Erling Haaland (£15.4m). The Norwegian has lacked massively in terms of form recently, or at least when compared to his usual standards. But, a game against Bournemouth this week could change that.

It could be difficult to ignore Chris Wood (£6.4m) after scoring four goals in his last four matches. Nottingham Forest go into their match against West Ham hoping to claim a third successive win so they will be hoping star man Wood if confirmed fit after his recent knock.

Sitting on the bench, but a very viable option if you decide to bring him into the starting XI for any reason is Raul Jimenez (£5.7m). Prior to his most recent match Raul hit a return in five on the bounce. Considering Brentford’s recent underlying defensive data, they appear a team to target.
