France v Morocco match report

Last modified date

The World Cup continues. The second semi-final match begins here. We take a look at the France v Morocco match report. We will highlight the line-ups, pick out the key moments and standout World Cup Fantasy performances during the match.

Covering the France v Morocco match can be very useful to World Cup Fantasy managers. Highlighting line-ups, key moments and standout fantasy performances can aid decisions regarding future transfers, captaincies and chip strategy.

Line-ups – France

Many managers will be relying on Striker Kylian Mbappe (£11.5m) for the captaincy in this match, he starts. Some fantasy managers chose striker Olivier Giroud (£7.5m) over Argentina striker Julian Alvarez (£6.5m). After his 14-point haul yesterday, managers will be hoping Giroud can match or better that.

Morocco

Midfielder Hakim Ziyech (£7m) starts the game who some managers may have kept for this match. Budget midfielder Sofiane Boufal (£6m) is yet to return any significant points in World Cup Fantasy, he also starts.

Key moments

  • The match gets underway.
  • GOAL! An early goal comes from France defender Theo Hernadez (£5m) as he smashes the ball into the net with his left foot after a ricochet off Kylian Mbappe falls to him! 1-0 to France!
  • CHANCE! Sofiane Boufal finds space to play a great ball to Hakim Ziyech who strikes just wide of the post.
  • Morocco defender Romain Saiss (£4.5m) comes off the pitch injured.
  • Sofiane Boufal fouls Theo Hernandez in the France box and picks up a yellow card.
  • Morocco are dominating possession.
  • CHANCE! Olivier Giroud has a fantastic chance to score after some excellent attacking play by Kylian Mbappe but he fails to hit the target even with the Moroccan goalkeeper way off his line.
  • France are looking increasingly dangerous as half-time approaches.
  • CHANCE! Striker Antoine Griezmann (£8.5m) puts in a low cross from the corner kick which is flicked just past the Morocco post by defender Raphael Varane (£6m).
  • The whistle blows for half-time.

Second half

  • The second half gets underway and there is a significant change as defender Noussair Mazraoui (£5m) is replaced.
  • Kylian Mbappe is looking more and more dangerous as the second half progresses.
  • There is more significant changes as Olivier Giroud, Morocco striker Youssef En-Nesyri (£5.5m) and Sofiane Boufal all make way.
  • CHANCE! Antoine Griezmann teases a ball into the box from a free kick but striker Marcus Thuram (£7m) misses the target with a header.
  • GOAL! Kylian Mbappe winds his way through the Morocco defence, unleashes a shot which is blocked and deflected straight into the path of Striker Randal Kolo Muani (£7m) who taps it in. 2-0 to France!

Standout World Cup Fantasy performances

  • Theo Hernandez hit a whopping 13 points because of his goal and clean sheet.
  • Kylian Mbappe picked up seven points for his two assists.
  • There were plenty of six-point returns in the French defence from the likes of Raphael Varane and Jules Kounde.

@FPLReaction’s (Louis) comments

Morocco were dominant for large parts of the match but France keep finding ways to win matches. Olivier Giroud was disappointing and came off fairly early second half which is a concern moving forward with him.

I’m not sure about backing any of the French defenders other than maybe Theo Hernandez for their final against Argentina.
