@FplRossoneri’ first draft for Serie A Fantasy

The new season of Italian football isn’t far away now. In fact, the first round starts on the 19th of August. With that in mind we take a look at @FplRossoneri‘ first draft for Serie A Fantasy and what the rationale is behind his picks.

Twitter is full of some of the most experienced fantasy managers in the world. Because of this checking out @FplRossoneri’ first draft for Serie A Fantasy could be very helpful to other managers. It could bring clarity to some of the decision making in our own teams.

First draft

Goalkeepers

  • Elia Caprile (€4.2m) – Caprile might be the cheapest starting GK after his transfer to Empoli after Vicario joined Spurs. In my opinion, you can’t really go wrong at his price.
  • Pietro Terracciano (€4.6m) – Another cheap starting GK for a top seven side like Fiorentina, yes please.

Defenders

  • Giovanni Di Lorenzo (€7.4m) – He was one of the highest scoring defenders last season
and goes straight into my team. Di Lorenzo is great for attacking returns as well.
  • Danilo (€6.4M) – He was the highest points scoring player in Serie A fantasy last season and with the departure of Bonucci, Danilo looks set to have another great season for Juventus with no risk of rotation.
  • Joakim Maehle (€5.4m) – I prefer Maehle in the mid-priced defender position. He provides goals and assists almost like a midfielder. He also plays in a very attack focused Atalanta team under Gasperini.
  • Nicolo Casale (€4.6m) – Casale is the cheapest route into a strong Lazio defence that kept 21 clean sheets last year.
  • Rasmus Kristensen (€4.4m) – Rounding off my defence with another cheap defender who looks set to start the new season for Roma. They also have a favourable set of initial fixtures.

Midfielders

  • Rafael Leao (€11.0m) – I just can’t see a Serie A fantasy team where I don’t go with Leao in my team. He is fixture proof and Milan’s Talisman who contributed 15 Goals and eight assists in just 28 starts last season and looks set to continue his rich form into the new season.
  • Teun Koopmeiners (€7.0m) – Another sure starter for me is Koopmeiners who I feel is under-priced at just 7m. He had 10 goals and four assists in 32 starts for Atalanta last season and can come up with big point hauls now and again as we witnessed in the last GW of the previous season where he ended with 28 points.
  • Mattia Zaccagni (€8.0m) – Zaccagni was one of the most in-form players in Serie A last season. He was a consistent threat throughout the season from the LW position for Lazio, he ended the season with 10 goals and six assists and at 8m he can provide the perfect Lazio cover who usually tend to score a lot of goals.
  • Gabriel Strefezza (€5.4m) – Moving onto my midfield budget picks, Strefezza was a easy choice given his performances last year where he notched up eight goals and four assists for Lecce and at just 5.4m price he also boasts penalty taking duties. Thus, in my opinion should be in everyone’s teams as their cheap midfield option.
  • Christos Kourfalidis (€4.2m) – Another cheap enabler in midfield, Kourfalidis played close to 1200 mins for Cagliari in Serie B last year so he should at least be a starter.

Forwards

  • Victor Osimhen (€12m) – Osimhen is to Serie A Fantasy what Haaland is to FPL, he is a no brainer in the forward spot. Napoli’s main man scored 26 goals last year along with four assists and is going to be a weekly captaincy option. He is currently already in 67.2% teams at the time of writing this article, I expect his ownership to hit the 80% mark by the start of GW1.
  • Lautaro Martinez (€11m) – Martinez is another player who we will see in a lot of teams. With the recent departures of Lukaku and Dzeko, he looks set to be Inter’s main threat going forward, Martinez scored 21 goals and created six assists last season and in my opinion is another no brainer in terms of selection into your Serie A Fantasy teams come GW1.
  • Guiseppe Caso (€4.4m) – Another enabler in my team in the forward spot is Caso who is predominately in my team as a bench filler but he did well for Frosinone in Serie B last year scoring nine goals and three assists and could be the starting ST for the newly promoted team.
