FPLFamily Latest Draft

The Gameweek 1 deadline is fast approaching. Managers will need to make their final choices this week and lock in their teams ahead of Friday nights deadline. Heading into the final week of pre-season we caught up with FPLFamily‘s Sam for a run through of her latest draft.

The final week leading into the new season is the one I both enjoy the most, and stress about the most. It’s the time I am most likely to rip up all the plans I have currently made and start again. Mostly this comes from fear of missing out.

Since I first picked my team ahead of the first FPL Pod of the season I have been fairly consistent. I have had a lot of players who haven’t left my draft. I have tinkered and played with other assets but always seemingly end up back with a very similar team when I hit save. However, this is the key week for change. The final pre-season fixtures tend to be the ones where the Premier League managers field the team who are near enough likely to be their starting XI in Gameweek 1.

When we know what those starting XI’s are likely to look like will be the time where my team changes the most.

Lastest Draft

This pre-season I have made full use of PlanFPL. It has allowed me to build multiple drafts and compare them quickly and easily. PlanFPL now has the points projection data from Fantasy Football Scout built in if you are a member of both and link your accounts.

There are likely nine players in this squad of 15 who I don’t see changing ahead of the Gameweek 1 deadline. Since Andre Onana (£5.0m) arrived in the game be has been part of my 15 man squad. I really like his price point. Having him makes it not so key to have a Man United defender and therefore I can save the £0.5m by not having Luke Shaw (£5.5m). The other locks in this draft are:

  • William Saliba (£5.0m)
  • Bukayo Saka (£8.5m)
  • Bruno Fernandes (£8.5m)
  • Erling Haaland (£14.0m)
  • Darwin Nunez (£7.5m)
  • Joao Pedro (£5.5m)
  • Issa Kabore (£4.0m)
  • Jordan Beyer (£4.0m)

Depending on what happens with the Harry Kane (£12.5m) situation at Spurs James Maddison (£7.5m) could yet be Richarlison (£7.0m). The Jarrod Bowen (£7.0m) and Mykhailo Mudryk (£6.5m) are still highly contested. There are a long line of midfielders who could yet take those two spots. If I stay in the cheaper assets these include:

  • Phil Foden (£7.5m)
  • Moussa Diaby (£6.5m)
  • Eberchi Eze (£6.5m)

But of course my current draft still doesn’t have Mo Salah (£12.5m). There is definitely potential that I change my structure and accommodate the Liverpool midfielder. Especially if Kane isn’t playing in the Premier League next season.

Chelsea’s final pre-season match alongside what we see from Man City in the Community Shield will be key. If Julian Alvarez (£6.5m) starts alongside Haaland there might be a change of system to accommodate him.

Big decisions

Salah or no Salah? Triple Arsenal or just the double up? Man City – just Haaland, or one or two more? Who is the best Chelsea asset? Spurs – who knows!

There are a lot of big decisions to be made this week. I hope to stay largely loyal to most of the players in this squad. But there will enviably be some changes as I prepare for at least the first two gameweeks with this squad.
