FPL Stat Kings in the Last Six Gameweeks

Last modified date

In this article, we take a look at the FPL stat kings from the last six Gameweeks. To do this we head over to the Fantasy Football Scout Members area. Once there, as well as other brilliant tools, we utilise some its fantastic underlying data.

Stats and underlying data play a huge part in how FPL managers play the game. Knowing which teams and players are producing the best stats can help with several factors, including captaincy, transfers and even chip strategy.

The Best Defences

FPL Stat Kings in the Last Six Gameweeks

There are several sides who have stood out over the previous six Gameweeks defensively. Ultimately, clean sheets are the most important metric when it comes to defence, and three teams who lead the way during that period include Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest with three. Interestingly, the former and latter rank among the top two for clean sheets this season overall with 10.

Expected goals conceded, is another good indicator when taking a look at several of the best defences. Conceding the least amount of XG in the last six matches is Liverpool (4.51). Whilst Arsenal (5.22) and Fulham (6.00) rank second and third best respectively, Crystal Palace (6.55) also make the top four.

How many big chances a team concedes should also be taken into account, and all sides mentioned above have conceded the least amount in the previous six rounds. Interestingly the Gooners have shipped the joint least with Crystal Palace (eight). This suggests they have underperformed from a clean sheet perspective.

The Best Attacks

We now switch our attention to goals scored. Although arguably below their usual standard, Manchester City have scored more goals than any other side in the last six Gameweeks (18). They are tailed by both Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, who have scored 16 goals. Also breaking into the top five are Arsenal and Bournemouth, who have both netted 14 times.

Expected goals scored, is a good indicator in which teams should be performing offensively. Topping the pack during the same period as above is Liverpool (15.90), followed by Manchester City (11.72). Making up the remainder of the top five is Brentford (11.40), Newcastle (11.03) and Chelsea (10.75).

Liverpool top every other side for total big chances (28), with Manchester City (24) managing just four less. Newcastle and Nottingham Forest have both produced an impressive 21 big chances, and Brentford trail with just one less.

Defenders

Defenders have impressed offensively as of late. We have already seen which sides have kept the most clean sheets, but knowing which defenders are dominating offensively can also play a huge part in decision making.

With four attacking returns in his previous six matches, Fulham full-back Antonee Robinson (£5.1m) leads defensive assets. Two other players came close to the American with three, Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.4m) and Tottenham full-back Pedro Porro (£5.4m). Eight other defenders managed two attacking returns in the same period.

When it comes to non-penalty expected goal involvement, Trent Alexander-Arnold dominates with 2.25. One player who has neither over or under achieved is Crystal Palace full-back Alex Munoz (£4.8m), who has banked two attacking returns from a NPXGI of 2.02. Completing the top four is Manchester City’ Josko Gvardiol (£5.9m) with 1.68 and Marc Cucurella (£5.1m) with 1.61.

Midfielders

Manchester City have dominated every other team for goals scored, so it’s no surprise to see Phil Foden (£9.3m) top every other midfielder in the game for attacking returns (eight). Bournemouth’ Justin Kluivert (£5.9m), Manchester City’ Savio (£6.3m) and Liverpool’ Mohamed Salah (£13.7m), have all produced seven attacking returns during the previous six Gameweeks. Nottingham Forest duo Anthony Elanga (£5.3m) and Morgan Gibbs-White (£6.4m) also join the seven, after bagging six goal contributions.

Interestingly, from that list, only Mohammed Salah and Phil Foden feature in the top six midfielders for non-penalty expected goal involvement with 4.89 and 3.35 respectitively. Breaking into the top five, but ultimately underperforming on their NPXGI is Chelsea duo Cole Palmer (£11.3m) with 3.05 and Noni Madueke (£6.1m) with 3.30. Sitting second best Salah is Manchester United Amad Diallo (£5.6m), who has produced four attacking returns from 3.42 NPXGI.

Nottingham Forest are another side who have impressed offensively as of late. Whilst the likes of Elanga and Gibbs-White have contributed, Chris Wood (£7m) has been exceptional, racking up a huge nine goal contributions.

Both Manchester City’ Erling Haaland (£14.7m) and Newcastle’ Alexander Isak (£9.5m) notched up seven attacking returns. Only two other strikers hit six goal contributions in the same period, and they were Cody Gakpo (£7.6m) of Liverpool and Crystal Palace man Jean Philippe Mateta (£7.3m).

Edging every other forward for non-penalty expected goal involvement was Brentford’ Yoane Wissa (£6.3m) with 4.78. Wissa evidently underperformed on his data, after producing just three goal contributions from that. Mateta (4.72) Isak (4.62) and Haaland (4.54) also rank among the top five. Completing it however was Leicester’ Jamie Vardy (£5.4m) with 3.60, who massively underperformed having scored just one goal.
