FPL so far: The top-scoring forwards
Now that we’ve completed the opening four FPL Gameweeks of 2023/24, here are the top-scoring forwards so far.
Heading into the international break, we can see from the Premier League table that champions Man City have continued from where they left off. The only side with four wins from four, they’re two points ahead of Tottenham, Liverpool, West Ham and Arsenal.
Meanwhile, promoted trio Luton, Burnley and Sheffield United already form three of the bottom four.
From an FPL perspective, it’s time to assess the stand-out assets using Fantasy Football Scout’s Members Area data.
THE TOP FPL FORWARDS
Points
FPL’s best two forwards belong to Man City. No surprises for seeing Erling Haaland far ahead as number one but Julian Alvarez has played almost every minute, in the absence of Kevin De Bruyne.
The World Cup winner has two goals and three assists, ranking as the best forward for creating chances (12).
Elsewhere, Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi has attacking returns in eight successive league matches, stretching back to last season. There was a similar continuation from Yoane Wissa, who seems to excel when Ivan Toney is absent. Two recent blanks followed a strong start.
Expected goal involvement (xGI)
One of the more interesting names of these early weeks is Nicolas Jackson. The new Chelsea arrival is the joint-best forward for in-box touches (33), third for attempts (15) and third for penalty area shots (14).
His seven big chances are joint-most overall but all he has to show for it is one goal, three bookings and a spot as the league’s biggest xG underachiever (-2.03).
Also on 33 penalty area touches is Joao Pedro but at the same price is Crystal Palace’s Odsonne Edouard. Only Haaland has more shots, with 18 of them inside the box being way more than third place.
Individual hauls
Gameweek 4 was all about the strikers. Five of them recorded double-digit scores, whereas the only other time with numerous ones was the opening weekend.
Haaland appears twice on this list, edging out Evan Ferguson’s hat-trick. The young Brighton forward has nine shots on target, which is second overall to Haaland.
The 13-point haul of Alexander Isak is his only non-blank so far, whilst £4.5m enabler Cameron Archer bagged 12 points on his Sheffield United debut.
