FPL Gossip 27th January: Positive Reece James update, plus Lampard and Salah
A look at the latest rumours and bits of gossip that are getting the FPL community talking.
Reece James about to return from injury
Having lost two million FPL owners since suffering a hamstring injury in Gameweek 20, The Athletic are reporting that Chelsea defender Reece James has started individual training and is working on his fitness at the club’s Cobham base, ahead of shortly joining the group. He is aiming to play in their Club World Cup semi-final on 9th February.
It won’t be until March when Chelsea assets appeal in the game, with blanks in Gameweeks 24, 25 and 27. However, a great run follows from 28 – Burnley (a), Newcastle (H), Norwich (a) and Brentford (H).
Frank Lampard interviewed for Everton job
Following a toxic reaction from Everton supporters towards the appointment of Vitor Pereira, it has been reported by several newspapers that Frank Lampard has been interviewed for a second time for their vacant managerial position. There is still 12 days until the Toffees’ next league match – a huge visit to Newcastle – so it’ll be interesting to see if performances and results immediately improve.
Quarter Finals for Mohamed Salah and Egypt
A penalty shoot-out win over Ivory Coast has booked Egypt’s place in the AFCON quarter-finals, where they face Morocco on Sunday. FPL managers will be nervous about the outcome, as reaching the semi-finals will ensure Egypt play a match on 6th February – four days before Liverpool’s Gameweek 24 encounter.
It’s feasible that Salah can get back to Merseyside in time but a victorious Egypt would begin mass celebrations, where the human side of Jurgen Klopp may decide he can sit out or stay on the bench against Leicester.
