FPL Gameweek 9 Top 5 Best Players to Buy on Deadline Day

Last modified date

The new round of Fantasy Premier League is here. For that reason we pick out the FPL Gameweek 9 top 5 players to buy on deadline day. To do this we consider several different factors including player form, statistics and fixture difficulty.

FPL Deadline days can be some of the most stressful and exciting times of the season. Because of that we clear out the noise and pick five players you should be considering in your team ahead of the new round. We’ll avoid players like Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland due to their already high ownership. So, lets dive in!

1. Cole Palmer

The recent injury to Bukayo Saka and doubt around his minutes moving forward could be a good opportunity to bring in Chelsea’s Cole Palmer (£10.9m). The Blues go into their fixture against a leaky Newcastle having managed the third most goals in the league so far.

As well as rising in price quickly, Palmer also faces two of the three promoted sides in the period ahead. So, bringing him in early may well be a wise play, especially considering he has already racked up a huge six goals and five assists in just eight matches.

2. Phil Foden

If his minutes were secure Phil Foden (£9.2m) would likely be public target number one ahead of the deadline. Foden has started just one of his sides eight matches this season, which has raised doubts over his expected minutes. But with back-to-back starts in the Champions League, we could well see him return to the starting line-up in the Premier League.

There are lots of factors backing Foden this week. As well as Bukayo Saka’s injury doubts and his recent form, Foden also faces the worst side in the division this week. The Saints have been woeful defensively and this could be a week Foden stamps his authority on them.

3. Dwight McNeil

Everton seem to be at a turning point currently. After losing their first four matches the Toffees are now unbeaten in their last four. Scoring goals doesn’t seem to be an issue for them either, having netted two in two of their last three games.

Fulham lay ahead, which begins a magnificent run of fixtures against Southampton, West Ham and Brentford. To target the poor defences mentioned, Dwight McNeil (£5.8m) could be the standout. Five returns in his last five matches shows the type of form McNeil has been producing.

4. Dominic Solanke

Tottenham are maintaining elite underlying statistics currently. So, buying into their frontline could be crucial during this period. They also go into their next game against a poor Crystal Palace side off the back of scoring four goals against West Ham.

Some have become frustrated with Dominic Solanke (£7.7m) as of late. But leading one of the best current frontlines with three returns in his four previous matches is nothing to shrug at. Son Heung-Min’s likely absence due to injury also suggests that he could be on penalty duty this week.

5. Brennan Johnson

Talking of cheaper options, Brennan Johnson (£6.7m) is one of the cheapest and most reliable routes into the Tottenham attack. The Welshman has bagged four goal contributions in his last four matches, so heads into the round in top form.

Tottenham have fantastic fixtures ahead, and this week they face Crystal Palace. The Eagles have been very poor this season – failing to win any of their eight matches and shipping two goals in half of those same games. Targeting them could be hugely rewarding this week and Johnson is both cheap and in form.
