FPL Gameweek 8 Top 5 Players to Buy on Deadline Day

Last modified date

The new round of Fantasy Premier League is here. For that reason we pick out the FPL Gameweek 8 top 5 players to buy on deadline day. To do this we consider several different factors including player form, statistics and fixture difficulty.

FPL Deadline days can be some of the most stressful and exciting times of the season. Because of that we clear out the noise and pick five players you should be considering in your team ahead of the new round. We’ll avoid players like Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland due to their already high ownership. So, lets dive in!

1. Rico Lewis

Manchester City are coming into lovely set of fixtures in the period ahead, starting with a match against Wolves. The 2023/24 Champions clash with a side who have lost all but one of their fixtures so far, which indicates both defensive and offensive potential for their assets.

One player who offers both is Rico Lewis (£4.7m). The youngster has produced four assists this season already in all competitions, with the potential to add to that due to his advanced positioning. As well as coming in nice and cheap he also offers himself up as an option at a time when good defenders picks are scarce.

2. Dominic Solanke

A lot of the top performing sides including Chelsea, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Liverpool are coming into a tough run of fixtures. Finding good teams with targetable schedules to invest in may become challenging over the weeks ahead, but Tottenham may just be one.

So far Tottenham rank amongst the top two sides for many different attacking metrics. Leading that frontline going into a meeting with an inconsistent Crystal Palace next is Dominic Solanke (£7.6m). Solanke goes into clash off the back of bagging a goal or an assist in each of his last three league matches.

3. Brennan Johnson

Tottenham assets could be top of many managers shopping lists ahead of the deadline. For those without the flexibility to go for a forward, or just simply want to bring in one of their midfielders, then Brennan Johnson (£6.6m) could be a fantastic option.

£1m cheaper than his teammate Solanke, Johnson could be the cheapest and most reliable route into a statistically impressive Tottenham frontline. The Welshman seems to be in the midst of a purple patch – incredibly scoring in every one of his last seven matches for both club and country.

4. Liam Delap

Finding cheap players with good potential will always be something FPL managers look to achieve. Enabling budget elsewhere within your team could be a priority, even more so this season due to players like Cole Palmer, Erling Haaland, Bukayo Saka, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and others performing well.

With that in mind Liam Delap (£5.7m) could be a player we look to. Ipswich arguably play one tough defence in their next 10 matches, and that run starts with a clash against Everton. Spearheading the Ipswich attack going into Gameweek 8 Delap appears to be in great form – hitting three goals in his last two matches.

5. Dwight McNeil

There are plenty of budget midfielders out there for FPL managers. Morgan Rogers, Emile Smith-Rowe and Antoine Semenyo are amongst those names. But, if you want to full take advantage of Everton’s dominance at the top of the Fantasy Football Scout Fixture Ticker for the period ahead then Dwight McNeil (£5.7m) stands out.

Amongst midfielders McNeil ranks second best for total crosses, first for successful crosses, second for chances created and third for big chances created. He has also managed two double-digit hauls in his last four games. McNeil has a brilliant opportunity to add another to his tally as he faces an Ipswich side who rank the worst for total big chances conceded this season so far.
