Best Wildcard Team
With the help of the above and Plan FPL, we built the best Wildcard for Gameweek 21:
Goalkeepers
Ranking at the top of the fixture ticker, Crystal Palace could have good potential ahead. With no outstanding goalkeeper option elsewhere, it could be easier to just opt for Dean Henderson (£4.5m), who comes in nice and cheap.
Backing him up, in the unlikely event Henderson does not feature, is budget enabler and Leicester man Jakub Stolarczyk (£4m).
Defenders
Liverpool continue dominate among all teams for clean sheets kept, so investing in them could be key. Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.2m) remains one of the most offensive defenders in the game, and his recent goal is reflective of that.
Another side maintaining some excellent underlying defensive data is Arsenal. Having some coverage of their defence could be crucial, and Gabriel (£6.4m) stands out as the pick of the bunch, due to his clear attacking threat from set pieces.
Newcastle have managed four clean sheets in their last five league games, which shows how impressive they have been from a defensive perspective. As well as clean sheet potential, full-back Lewis Hall (£4.9m) has also produced impressive distribution data recently, along with registering three assists in his previous five games.
Another side who rank highly on the ticker is Fulham. One route into their defence and attack is wing-back Antonee Robinson (£4.9m). The American has notched up more assists than any other defender in the league so far this season.
On the bench, and enabling finds elsewhere, is Sepp van den Berg (£4.1m) of Brentford.
Midfielders
Both Liverpool’ Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) and Chelsea’ Cole Palmer (£11.4m) remain a shoo-in for any managers using the wildcard. Both players are two of the most consistent and explosive assets in the game this season, as they sit first and second respectively for most points racked up in FPL.
The Crystal Palace schedule makes them a very interesting prospect form an investment perspective. Of their assets, their most successful recently has been Eberechi Eze (£6.6m). Eze has returned in his last two matches and takes set pieces for his side.
Newcastle continue to score more goals than any other side as of late, so buying into their attack is essential. Whilst the striker ahead of him, who we’ll touch on shortly, is in good form, so is Anthony Gordon (£7.5m). Gordon has produced better consistency than most other midfielders in the game during the last five Gameweeks.
Proving to be one of the best budget midfielders in the game this campaign is Morgan Rogers (£5.5m). As well as pushing funds to use in other parts of the squad, Rogers is a key part of the efficient Aston Villa attack.
Forwards
The lack of cheap convincing forwards elsewhere makes Joao Pedro (£5.7m) a great pick. The Brighton penalty taker has also returned nine points in each of his last two matches. Joao Pedro can come in and out of the starting XI, depending on fixture difficulty.
Proving to be the best striker option in the game currently, Alexander Isak (£9.3m) is arguably essential currently. Leading a free-scoring Newcastle attack into a good run of fixtures, could even make him a viable captaincy option moving forward.
Arsenal continue to score goals, even without key man Bukayo Saka. Gabriel Jesus (£6.9m) could be one of several good options in the frontline. It’s a great sign that the Brazilian has started 90 minutes in both of his sides previous two games.
