FPL Gameweek 20 Best Wildcard Team

Last modified date

Another round of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is coming, so we take a look at the best Wildcard team for FPL Gameweek 20. To do this, we use Fantasy Football Scout’s Members Area and the fantastic Plan FPL tool.

One of several chips provided by the game, the Wildcard allows managers to make an unlimited number of free transfers to their squad. The moves made in this one Gameweek can both fix problems and plan for the future. It’s an extremely useful weapon.

Fixtures

Below is Fantasy Football Scout’s ranking of fixture difficulty over the next six Gameweeks. Teams at the top have the easiest fixtures, while teams at the bottom have the toughest ones.

Who has the best fixtures?

Many have already benefitted from buying a Fulham defender like Antonee Robinson (£4.9m) or Timothy Castagne (£4.2m). Their short-term prospects look good.

Next-best is Southampton, who look slightly less bad under new manager Ivan Juric but are still bottom of the league, scoring just once in their latest five outings.

Crystal Palace have a nice run until Gameweek 31, whilst Aston Villa are about to host Leicester without the suspended Morgan Rogers (£5.5m).

Who has the worst fixtures?

Also banned is Matheus Cunha (£7.1m), albeit only for one league match. Not that Wolves’ subsequent fixtures have appeal, making the Brazilian an easy sell.

Manchester City’s run has some tricky challenges, denting the potential of Erling Haaland (£14.8m) and Josko Gvardiol (£6.0m).

Best Gameweek 20 Wildcard

Using the PlanFPL website, here is the best Wildcard team for Gameweek 20 and beyond:

Goalkeepers

Arsenal’s immediate fixtures don’t look great but doubling up on the league’s best defence is a good strategy. Ideally, your Wildcard will secure a longer-term backline in order to free up transfers for attacking talent.

David Raya (£5.6m) gets the nod, with Lukasz Fabianski (£4.1m) as back-up on the assumption that he’ll soon recover from a head injury and reclaim West Ham’s place between the sticks.

Defenders

Completing the Arsenal pair is Gabriel (£6.4m) because he’s known for being a set-piece threat in a side that’s notoriously good at them. This squad has enough funds left over to bring in Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.2m) but it’s hard to leave out cheaper names like Robinson, Daniel Munoz (£4.7m) and Lewis Hall (£4.7m).

Wing-back Munoz has great Palace fixtures and ranks inside the top two defenders for box touches, penalty area shots, big chances, attempts on target and expected goals (xG). He missed a sitter on Sunday. As for Fulham’s Robinson, he has his position’s most assists so far (seven).

Hall’s latest four matches have all ended with a clean sheet, averaging 10 points thanks to the addition of three assists.

There’s a strong case for including a representative from Nottingham Forest’s defence but Everton’s cheap Vitalii Mykolenko (£4.3m) is also providing good value for money. He’s on a streak of five clean sheets from eight, as the Toffees have a Double Gameweek on the horizon.

Midfielders

Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) and Cole Palmer (£11.4m) are instinctive and obvious picks. The Egyptian is having arguably the greatest FPL season of all time, whereas last season’s highest-scorer has recorded the fourth-most shots (68) and created the most chances (52).

Meanwhile, the selection of Bryan Mbeumo (£7.6m) could easily be Bruno Fernandes (£8.3m) instead. But while the latter faces Liverpool, playing for a team in crisis, Mbeumo is at home to Southampton during Rogers’ suspension. And the Aston Villa attacker needs keeping, based on his two recent hauls and appealing fixtures.

Ismaila Sarr (£5.9m) is another Palace asset. His 2.56 expected goal involvement (xGI) throughout the last four are amongst the best. He’s cheap, in good form and about to have favourable opponents.

Forwards

We’re running out of things to say about Alexander Isak (£9.2m) – he feels essential. The Newcastle forward has scored in six successive matches, a period with eight goals, two assists and a huge 62 points.

Furthermore, he’ll soon face Wolves and Southampton, just like Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood (£6.7m). His strike at Everton was this season’s 11th, showcasing his continual reliability to FPL managers.

The third name is slightly trickier. We think Joao Pedro‘s (£5.7m) two Monday night assists keep him in favour, despite being goalless in seven encounters. Some may prefer him to be Nicolas Jackson (£8.2m) or Dominic Solanke (£7.5m).
