FPL Gameweek 2 Best Budget Gems

Last modified date

Here we take a look at the FPL Gameweek 2 best budget gems. Using the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area and its fantastic tools we can compare the cheaper assets and pick the best of them for the second round.

The following FPL Gameweek 2 best budget gems can be extremely helpful for managers. Cheap players are vital towards fitting in the more expensive players, those expensive players tend to be the most reliable and consistent.

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest could be one of the best teams to invest in for budget options this week. Gameweek 2 presents a brilliant opportunity for their assets due to their meeting with newly promoted Southampton.

The Saints didn’t begin their return to top flight football well. In fact, their opposition, Newcastle, were reduced to 10 men due to a red card and even that wasn’t enough to escape a loss on the opening day.

With the above in mind and the fact that Southampton failed to score in the first round we could look to the Nottingham Forest defence. Ola Aina’s recent knock could cause concern over his minutes but opposite full-back Neco Williams (£4.5m) is be a good alternative.

Southampton also failed to dominate the Championship in terms of defensive statistics which could give the Nottingham Forest attackers potential. The cheapest routes into the frontline could well be midfielders Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi who both come in at £5m.

Meanwhile the standout option appears to be striker Chris Wood (£6m). As well as ranking amongst the top five forwards for non-penalty expected goal involvement last season he also scored his sides only goal in the first round.

Fulham

One side who will be hoping to bounce back after their opening day defeat is Fulham. The Cottagers impressed for some parts of the previous campaign both defensively and offensively and they have a fixture against newly promoted Leicester to repeat some of that form this week.

Fulham have several different defensive options we could consider but the most attacking is Antonee Robinson (£4.5m). The American edged his defensive teammates for non-penalty goal involvement and attacking returns last season.

A fresh new addition in the frontline you could consider is former Arsenal man Emile Smith-Rowe (£5.5m). It was fellow midfielder Andreas Pereira (£5.5m) who stole the show however after producing more crosses and chances than any other midfielder during Gameweek 1.

Although statistically quiet in Gameweek 1 striker Rodrigo Muniz (£6m) should be another consideration. Muniz proved how explosive he can be last season and with the creativity mentioned above behind him this week he could have huge potential.

Stuart Armstrong

Southampton will be looking to put their Gameweek 1 disappointment behind them. The Saints play their first home match since returning to the top tier this week and the crowd could be a huge factor in their attempt to neutralise Nottingham Forest.

Star striker Adam Armstrong (£5.5m) produced some strong data in the first round – managing the joint most attempts on goal amongst all forwards. The 27-year-old will be looking to find some of his 23/24 campaign form in which he bagged a huge 34 goal contributions. With penalty duty at his disposal as well Armstrong has everything he needs to pick up points this week.

Other Great Budget Picks

There are plenty of other budget enablers to consider ahead of Gameweek 2.

Tottenham clash with an Everton second who ranked 19th overal for goals scored last season. Taking that into account we could include the cheapest and most reliable route into their backline, centre-back Micky van de Ven (£4.5m).

Crystal Palace face-off with West Ham as they play their first match at home. The Eagles maintained some of the best defensive stats in the league last season so goalkeeper Dean Henderson (£4.5m) and Joachim Anderson (£4.5m) remain good options, even after the loss in round one.

Staying in London, the only way is up it seems for Chelsea after their 2-0 loss to champions Manchester City. Wolves lay ahead so we could well see a much better result for them. With that in mind goalkeeper Robert Sanchez (£4.5m) and defender Levi Colwill (£4.5m) could have some potential.
