Best Wildcard Team
With the help of the above and Plan FPL, we built the best Wildcard for Gameweek 18:
Goalkeepers
With a great schedule coming up for Crystal Palace and other more expensive goalkeepers underperforming, spending just £4.4m on someone like Dean Henderson (£4.4m) could be a good play.
Enabling the team and backing Henderson up is West Ham’ Łukasz Fabiański (£4.1m). Some may even decide to play him ahead of Henderson depending on the fixture.
Defenders
Liverpool have picked up more clean sheets than any other side this season bar one, which makes them very appealing when shopping for a defender. Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.1m) stands out as their best option due to his attacking threat.
Ranking among the top two sides for total shots on target conceded and total big chances conceded, Arsenal have maintained some fantastic defensive metrics. Their centre-backs have also proven to be a major goal threat from set pieces, with Gabriel (£6.3m) the standout pick.
Only six sides have managed more clean sheets than Chelsea so far, highlighting that they are capable defensively. The Blues also have some great fixtures ahead, and their most reliable defensive asset in terms of gametime is Levi Colwill (£4.6m).
Fulham’ Antonee Robinson (£4.9m) and Newcastle’ Lewis Hall (£4.6m), have both impressed from an offensive perspective already this season. So, combined with their plum fixtures and clean sheet potential, both could be great options to rotate in and out of the starting XI.
Midfielders
Playing against the worst defence in the league, and with fair fixtures after that, Manchester United could be worth investing in offensively. Penalty taker and talisman Bruno Fernandes (£8.4m) could be their best attacking option. Fernandes has produced seven goals and five assists in all competitions, since his former manager departed.
Crystal Palace may not be consistent in regards to results, but they have netted in all six of their last matches. The Eagles have a lovely schedule coming up, and their most in-form attacker is Ismaila Sarr (£5.7m), who has amassed three goals and one assist in just his last two matches alone.
Liverpool’ table topping form and their upcoming schedule, makes them an essential for investment. Also considered essential by many is their relentless Egyptian penalty taker Mohamed Salah (£13.5m). Salah has been scintillating this season – banking an incredible 11 double-digit hauls already.
Another player who could be considered as an essential is Cole Palmer (£11.2m). Chelsea have netted as many goals as Liverpool thus far, and contributing to a huge 17 of them was their main man and penalty taker Palmer.
Bournemouth have seen off some of the best teams in the league this season, and continue to score plenty of goals. The Cherries still have great fixtures ahead, and penalty taker Justin Kluivert (£5.5m) is one of two great midfield options.
Forwards
Newcastle go into their period ahead, after racking up four goals in their previous two matches. Leading their lethal frontline is Alexander Isak (£8.9m). Isak has collected a huge three double-digit hauls in his last four matches, highlighting his jaw-dropping run of form.
Another striker who could be worth sticking with is Chelsea man Nicolas Jackson (£8.3m). Spearheading the joint second best attack in the division thus far, Jackson has already bagged nine goals and three assists in just 16 matches.
Southampton are poor an there is no doubt about that. But, with a new manager and easier fixtures we could see glimmers of potential from them. Cameron Archer (£5m) is just one of their striker options. Most of his appeal comes from his cheap price-tag, which enables the rest of the team.
