Best Wildcard Team
With the help of the above and Plan FPL, we built the best Wildcard for Gameweek 17:
Goalkeepers
Chelsea sit top of the fixture ticker with excellent fixtures. Although ropey like most sides defensively this season, the fixtures are their for them to improve on that. Because of this Robert Sanchez (£4.8m) makes the cut.
Joining him is Tottenham back up Fraser Forster (£4.3m) who covers whilst Guglielmo Vicario recovers from injury. FPL managers could rotate him in and out if they like. He goes into his next period after banking a clean sheet in Gameweek 16.
Defenders
With three clean sheets in their last five matches, Arsenal are one of the best defences in the league. One way in which we could invest is with goal threat Gabriel (£6.2m). The Brazilian has produced an impressive three goals in the league this season alone.
Fulham’s fixtures turn for the better during the Christmas period, as they face some of the worst attacks in the league. As well as having clean sheet potential, full-back Antonee Robinson (£4.8m) has registered a huge six assists already this campaign.
No side have kept more clean sheets than Liverpool this season with seven. Taking that into account, as well as their fixtures, investing in their defence could be crucial. The standout option at the back is Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7m), who continues to produce fantastic distribution stats.
Manchester City have been awful recently, but it may just be a matter of time before they find their feet and produce a relentless run of form. The fixtures are great and so are Rico Lewis’ (£4.6m) minutes, so he could well have both defensive and offensive potential ahead.
Another player who could offer multiple routes to points is Lewis Hall (£4.6m). The Newcastle full-back managed two assists and a clean sheet in his latest match. Hall can be brought on and off the bench based on fixture difficulty if needed.
Midfielders
The trio of Chelsea’ Arsenal’ Bukayo Saka (£10.6m), Chelsea’ Cole Palmer (£11.1m) and Liverpool’ Mohamed Salah (£13.4m) remains essential. As well as being three of the best assets in the game this season, they also have great fixtures to attack moving forward.
Doubling up on the Chelsea attack could be hugely beneficial, especially when one of their attackers cost just £5.1m. Chelsea have netted more goals than any other side in the league so far and have the best fixtures moving forward. Benefitting from that is the cheap Enzo Fernandez, who has returned in every one of his last six league matches.
A new manager, improving performances and increasingly easing fixtures could make Manchester United an interesting side in regards to investment. Their standout attacker currently, who is also conveniently the cheapest route into their attack is Amad Diallo (£5.2m). Diallo has been excellent recently – bagging six goal contributions in his last five games.
Forwards
As well as facing Southampton next, the worst side in the league, Fulham also have a great schedule long-term. For that reason, and the lack of cheap striker options in general, Raul Jimenez (£5.5m) could be a great buy.
Although unconvincing recently, Joao Pedro (£5.9m) could still be a brilliant option. The Brazilian plays for an effective Brighton frontline and takes their penalties. He also picked up five returns in his last six games.
Arguably an essential at the moment due to his relentless form, Alexander Isak (£8.7m) is a shoo-in. On top of his recent performances, Isak has racked up a massive 30 points in his previous three matches, and faces several poor defences next up.
