FPL Gameweek 16 Top 5 Best Players to Buy on Deadline Day
The new round of Fantasy Premier League is here. For that reason we pick out the FPL Gameweek 16 top 5 players to buy on deadline day. To do this we consider several different factors including player form, statistics and fixture difficulty.
FPL Deadline days can be some of the most stressful and exciting times of the season. Because of that we clear out the noise and pick five players you should be considering in your team ahead of the new round. We’ll avoid players like Mohamed Salah, Cole Palmer, Bukayo Saka and Erling Haaland due to their already high ownership. So, lets dive in!
1. William Saliba
Arsenal seem to be recapturing their best form as of late. In the last four Gameweeks the Gooners kept two clean sheets, and rank the best for both total big chances conceded and expected goals conceded, which makes their defensive assets extremely appealing.
Fitness concerns around Gabriel means that he is no longer the standout defensive option for Arsenal. In fact, that title could well go to William Saliba (£6.2m). The Frenchman isn’t just their most reliable defender when it comes to gametime, but he is also a major goal threat – having found the net in both of his last two league matches.
2. Nicolas Jackson
No side has a better run of fixtures in the league than Chelsea in the coming winter period. The Blues come up against Brentford next, a side who have shipped more shots on target than any other this season. They then go onto play Everton, Fulham, Ipswich, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Wolves.
Chelsea aren’t second in the Premier League by chance, they have been fantastic offensively – ranking above every other side in the division for total goals scored so far. One of two brilliant ways to invest in the Chelsea frontline is Nicolas Jackson (£8.2m). Jackson has a great opportunity this week to add to the eight goals and three assists already banked this season.
3. Alexander Isak
Newcastle could be another side we look to for investment this week. Although hugely ropey in defence, the Magpies have shown they can score goals – with three against Liverpool and two against Brentford in their last two league matches.
Two promoted sides lay ahead next, with Leicester up first. Both sides have been extremely poor when it comes to their defensive data, and that is something penalty Alexander Isak (£8.6m) can benefit from. Isak goes into his Gameweek 16 clash off the back of scoring in each of his last two fixtures.
4. David Raya
We already touched upon how good Arsenal have been recently, and how they have shown glimpses of their 2023/24 defensive form. But we also have to take into account how poor Everton are offensively. The Toffees have failed to score in four of their last five matches, whilst also producing some poor underlying offensive metrics.
Picking the right goalkeeper has been an issue this season. Goalkeepers have generally disappointed, the likes of Mark Flekken and Robert Sanchez are two we can name. Taking that into account, it could be worth forking out the extra budget to bring in Arsenal’s David Raya (£5.5m).
5. Trent Alexander-Arnold
Arsenal may have great fixtures and increasingly impressive form, but Liverpool remain the best defence in the league based on current data. The Reds have kept more clean sheets and conceded less goals than any other side in the league.
Liverpool have great fixtures ahead, starting with a match against Fulham. The injury to Conor Bradley appears to have come at the right time for Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7m). The full-back should see plenty of gametime, and will do so after producing a better non-penalty expected goal in involvement than any other defender in the game.
