Best Wildcard Team
With the help of the above and Plan FPL, we built the best Wildcard for Gameweek 16:
Goalkeepers
Sitting top for expected goals conceded recently, Arsenal are back to sustaining some of the best underlying defensive data in the league. With that in mind, and how unpredictable clean sheets have been elsewhere, it could be safer to just opt for David Raya (£5.5m) long-term.
Backing up David Raya in goal is West Ham’ Lukasz Fabianski (£4.1m). He will only feature in the event that Raya does not.
Defenders
Chelsea have fantastic fixtures ahead and cheap defensive assets. There most reliable defender in terms of gametime is Levi Colwill (£4.5m).
Arsenal look back to their best and have some great fixtures ahead. Because of this, doubling up in defence could be hugely beneficial. Whilst Gabriel continues to be a doubt, William Saliba (£6.1m) is fully fit and goes into the fixtures ahead off the back of securing two back-to-back double-digit hauls in his last two games.
Keeping more clean sheets than any other side this season, Liverpool also have a good schedule ahead. Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7m) ranks above every other defender for non-penalty expected goal involvement currently, so offers multiple routes to points.
Aston Villa’ Ezri Konsa (£4.4m) and Newcastle’ Lewis Hall (£4.4m) both help enable the rest of the squad. Both could also be viable options when easy fixtures arrive.
Midfielders
Bournemouth midfielder Antoine Semenyo (£5.7m) may have been frustrating for owners as of late, but he faces some ropey defences up next. The Cherries are on a good run of form, and their talisman remains top in his position for total attempts on goal.
Another player who helps enable the rest of the squad is Morgan Rogers (£5.4m). Rogers has become integral to Unai Emery’ attack this season, and plays for a fully capable frontline.
The triple up of Chelsea’ Cole Palmer (£11.1m), Arsenal’ Bukayo Saka (£10.5m) and Liverpool’ Mohamed Salah (£13.3m) could be seen as essential. All three have been excellent this season, take their sides penalties, and have fantastic fixtures ahead.
Forwards
No side has scored more than Chelsea in the league thus far, so, along with their great fixtures long-term, it could be rewarding to double up on their attack. Ranking amongst the best players in the league for non-penalty expected goal involvement is Nicolas Jackson (£8.2m).
Wolves face two poor promoted sides next up, so the cheap Strand Larsen (£5.6m) could continue to offer great value. Prior to Gameweek 15, The Norwegian collected six returns in a seven-match period.
Other than their fixture against Arsenal, Brighton face some poor defences in their matches ahead. Contributing to five of their goals in the last five matches is penalty taker Joao Pedro (£5.9m) who continues to impress since returning from injury.
