FPL Gameweek 12 and 13 Forward Planning

We take a look at FPL Gameweek 12 and 13 forward planning. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout members area we can utilise its fixture ticker and underlying stats to pick out the best teams and players to target for the Gameweeks ahead.

FPL Gameweek 12 and 13 forward planning can be absolutely vital to the success of any given managers season. The early stage of the campaign is one of the most important periods in FPL so being able to target the right teams and players could be key.

Gameweek 12 & 13 fixtures

Who has the best fixtures?

Crystal Palace, West Ham, Brighton, Manchester United and Newcastle all rank in the top five teams with the easiest fixtures.

Who has the worst fixtures?

Chelsea, Brentford, Liverpool, Manchester City and Burnley rank in the bottom five teams with the toughest fixtures.

Best players for Gameweek 12 & 13

  • Crystal Palace – Crystal Palace sit at the top of the fixture ticker this week. They come up against Everton and Luton so it could be a great opportunity to invest in some of their nicely priced players. When looking into their defence, centre-back Joachim Anderson (£5m) stands out. He sits as the second highest scoring defender in the game after seven returns in his first 10 games. A cheaper option could be Marc Guehi (£4.6m) for those with less budget. In terms of attack striker Odsonne Edouard (£5.5m) who has netted four times this season. It may also be worth monitoring the return of midfielder Eberechi Eze (£6.1m) who has picked up the most points per start this season amongst the frontline.
  • West Ham – West Ham also have some really nice fixtures against Nottingham Forest and Burnley. They too have some nicely priced defenders for those wanting to invest in the backline. One of them is Vladimir Coufal (£4.6m). The full-back has started the joint most games for his side (10) but he also sits second best for non-penalty expected goal involvement this season. In terms of attack the standout is Jarrod Bowen (£7.4m). Bowen dominates his offensive teammates for big chances total (eight).
  • Brighton – They come up against the worst team in the league next, Sheffield United. They also face Nottingham Forest as well. In terms of defence some could opt for goalkeeper Jason Steele (£4.5m) who has started the last three matches. Centre-back Julio Igor (£4.3m) has also been starting regularly and could be a great budget pick. Another safe option in terms of minutes is Lewis Dunk (£5m). The centre-back ranks as one of the highest in his position for total attempts and shots in the box. In attack the standout option is Kaoru Mitoma (£6.5m). The Japanese international looks the safest in terms of minutes and ranks above his teammates for non-penalty expected goal involvement. Some could also take a chance on midfielder Simon Adingra (£5m) and striker Evan Ferguson (£5m). The latter has bagged five goals already this season.

Who else should we be targeting?

  • Manchester United – The Reds will be hoping to get back on track after recently losing to Manchester City. Prior to that game they won three matches in all competitions in a row so they do have potential. They come up against Luton and Everton next. For those looking to go cheap it could be worth investing in centre-back Harry Maguire (£4.2m) who is also a threat from set pieces as seen in his most Champions League match where he scored. Another good option is full-back Diogo Dalot (£4.9m) who has started more games than any other defender in his side. He also ranks highly in his position for non-penalty expected goal involvement. In attack the standout is Bruno Fernandes (£8.3m). He takes his sides penalties and ranks above all of his teammates for non-penalty expected goal involvement (5.56). Another option could be striker Ramus Hojlund (£7.1m) who has netted three times in three Champions League matches.
  • Newcastle – The Magpies have fixtures against Bournemouth and Chelsea ahead. The standout pick in defence is Kieran Trippier (£7m). The full-back is a set piece specialist and he’s already picked up 10 fantasy returns this season. Centre-back Dan Burn (£4.7m) is a much cheaper option and he’s collected six returns this season. In attack some could opt for Anthony Gordon (£5.7m) who has banked three returns in his last four matches. The standout is striker Callum Wilson (£7.8m). He takes his sides penalties and tops his teammates for expected goal involvement so far (6.03).
  • Tottenham – They currently sit at the top of the Premier League after a brilliant start to the season. They face teams like Wolves and Aston Villa ahead. One of best ways into the Tottenham backline is Pedro Porro (£5.2m). He ranks as one of the best in his position for attempts on goal. One of two great picks in the Spurs frontline is Son Heung-min (£9.6m) who has managed a huge four double-digit hauls in his last seven matches. Another amazing option is fellow midfielder James Maddison (£8.1m). He has picked up a return in all of his last three games.

Other assets with potential

  • Bukayo Saka (£8.6m) – Arsenal also have good fixtures and their star man Saka takes his sides penalties. He’s also a very consistent FPL asset as he’s bagged a return in all but one of his matches.
  • Ollie Watkins (8.4m) – Aston Villa are in great form and they also rank top for goals scored this season (26). Because of that and his form Watkins has to be considered.
  • Erling Haaland (£14m) – The Norwegian seems to have found his form – scoring five goals in his last three matches. He leads the ruthless Manchester City attack and takes his sides penalties.
  • Mohamed Salah (£12.9m) – No player in the game has picked up more points in the game than this man. Salah has racked up at least one return in all but one of his matches so far which highlights his consistency.

Should we use a chip?

FPL Gameweek 12 and 13 forward planning should also include the use of chips.

The most experienced managers usually use their Bench Boost, Triple Captain and Free Hit chip during medium or large blank and double Gameweeks. It could however be a fantastic time to use the Wildcard due to the major fixture swings ahead and rapidly increasing player price-tags of in-form players with good schedules.
