FPL: @FPLReaction’ Top Three Picks for Gameweek 29

The new round of Fantasy Premier League is edging closer so we invited regular contributor and fantasy football whizz @FPLReaction to reveal his top three picks for Gameweek 29. His picks are all players he thinks are going under the radar for the round ahead.

Seeing @FPLReaction’ top three picks for Gameweek 29 could be extremely enlightening. As we approach the deadline many within the community may be unsure when it comes to which players to buy. These three picks could help bring clarity around those decisions.

The Obvious Options

  • Ollie Watkins (£9m)
  • Ivan Toney (£8.2m)
  • Carlton Morris (£5.2m)
  • Alfie Doughty (£4.7m)
  • Son Heung-Min (£10m)
  • James Maddison (£8m)
  • Pedro Porro (£5.8m)
  • Jarrod Bowen (£8m)

Leon Bailey

Some readers may suggest that my next pick should be in the ‘obvious options’ section. But, from most of the drafts I have seen in the community, he is definitely going under the radar.

Aston Villa continue to be great this season after bouncing back from their 4-0 defeat to Spurs with a 4-0 victory against Ajax, they seem to be back in favour with FPL managers after some concerns.

The minor injury to Ollie Watkins may cause some questions over the Aston Villa attack. But even when he left the pitch with his injury, his side continued to perform in attack, scoring three goals and our next pick was on the scoresheet.

Many have left Leon Bailey (£5.7m) out of their plans for Gameweek 29 due to his limited minutes. However, the Jamaican is still averaging over 70 minutes per match recently and with two goals and two assists in his last five matches and a match against West Ham next, I think he should be right up there when it comes to picking a player this week.

Mohammed Kudus

Aston Villa may be very good offensively this season, but they are lacking at the back. In fact, in their last 10 league matches Villa have shipped a massive 19 goals, averaging out at 1.9 goals conceded per game.

The return of Lucas Paqueta continues to work wonders, both for the West Ham results and for their scoring ability. In the five recent matches Paqueta started they managed a huge 14 goals, more than two goals per game.

Most will go into this week putting all of their attention on just one West Ham attacker, Jarrod Bowen. But, taking the above into mind I think there is scope to go with both. I think managers could even take the punt on Mohammed Kudus (£6.8m) rather than his teammate.

Kudus has become a key part of the West Ham side since joining. The Ghanian hasn’t just been ‘an extra player thrown in’ but has shown how explosive he can be, scoring two goals on four occasions this season. One interesting fact about Kudus you may not know is that he actually edges Bowen for non-penalty expected goal involvement in the last six Gameweeks. He also banked two goals and two assists in his last five matches, so has the recent form.

Yoane Wissa

As with my other two options, this next pick has something that is putting managers off bringing him into their teams this week and there’s a pretty obvious reason for it, Ivan Toney.

Picking a Brentford attacker could be crucial this week and that is due to the fact they face Burnley. The promoted side have shown some fight recently but that hasn’t improved how woeful they have been at the back this season and recently.

An alternative route into the Brentford frontline is Yoane Wissa (£5.6m). Many will avoid Wissa up front because Toney has penalties and set pieces, but form should also be taken into account. In fact, not only does Wissa beat his teammate for non-penalty expected goal involvement in the last several matches but he has also out performed him – hitting a goal contribution in all three of his last matches on the bounce.
