FPL: @FPLReaction’ Top Three Picks for Gameweek 27

In this article we take a look at three picks that could be going under the radar going into the next round. To do this we bring in Fantasy Football Scout and Fantasy Football Community contributor @FPLReaction. As well as sharing his top three picks for Gameweek 27 he also shares the most obvious picks.

Taking a look at @FPLReaction’ top three picks for Gameweek 27 could be really beneficial. Finding players that are going under the radar with the rest of the community can be great. However, if they are successful, they can boost your rank and give you an edge in your mini-leagues.

The Obvious Options

  • Jarrod Bowen (£7.7m)
  • Pascal Gross (£6.5m)
  • Richarlison (£7.1m)
  • Ollie Watkins (£8.9m)
  • Dominic Solanke (£7.1m)
  • Erling Haaland (£14.5m)
  • Kevin De Bruyne (£10.7m)
  • Phil Foden (£8.1m)
  • Bukayo Saka (£9.2m)
  • Gabriel (£5.3m)
  • William Saliba (£5.7m)

Pedro Neto

Many like myself would have been extremely frustrated by Wolves last week in their 1-0 win over Sheffield United, and we all know why. What many may have picked up is the fact that Wolves seem to score more goals against better opposition. Good examples of this is their recent two goals against Spurs, their four goals against Chelsea and their three goals against Manchester United.

The above is super relevant this week as Wolves face Newcastle. The Magpies were one of the best defences in the league at one point, but that is far from the case at the moment. In the last six matches Newcastle in fact rank joint second worst for goals conceded, second worst for expected goals conceded and third worst for shots on target conceded.

This week a lot of FPL managers are probably going to bench Pedro Neto (£5.8m). However, I’m not sure they should. This season Neto has returned in 11 of his matches. Interestingly, seven of those occasions have been against ‘big teams’ like Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool. This tells me that Neto performs better against teams who attack and try to dominate the match, something we are likely to see this week.

Son Heung Min

Tottenham are a home side and there is no doubt about it. If you look at their most recent home matches in the league they have won four of their last five and racked up 10 goals in the process. Their expected goals data is also much better, ranking in the top five teams at home but ranking mid-table away from home.

Tottenham face Crystal Palace this week at home. The Eagles have been extremely poor recently defensively, conceding a huge 15 goals in their last six league matches. The new manager is unlikely to immediately fix that. After their loss against Wolves, I think Tottenham will be looking to bounce back which isn’t ideal for Crystal Palace but could benefit the Spurs frontline.

It is quite surprising that Son Heung-Min (£9.6m) doesn’t top the transfer in charts at the time of writing. Not only does he have a good schedule but he also has a fixture in Gameweek 29. Most FPL managers are likely to have the budget to move in on him as well. We also have to take into account the Richarlison injury rumours. If the Brazilian is confirmed out then its highly like Son plays in a strikers role. Taking that into account, the fact he takes his sides penalties and the 18 attack returns he has collected already this season, I think Son could have a massive week ahead of him.

Leon Bailey

My next pick, as we can see, is an Aston Villa player. Villa seem to have found their rhythm again recently, winning three of their last four league matches whilst racking up 12 goals. It isn’t as if they’re short of goals anyway as they sit fourth best in the league for goals scored this season. They also have a fantastic fixture this week.

Aston Villa have a meeting with Luton next. There seems to be positive thoughts around Luton performances recently and I’m not sure why. Yes they seem more convincing than other promoted sides but they have still lost their last three matches on the bounce and shipped nine goals along the way.

The fact Aston Villa have averaged three goals scored in their last three matches and Luton have shipped have averaged three goals conceded per game in the last three matches is interesting. It also bodes well for someone like Leon Bailey (£5.6m), a player who still somehow has under 5% ownership. Not only could he be one of few players to buy to actually benefit from the Aston Villa goals but they he also has a fixture in the big Blank Gameweek 29. It is clear he is the favoured winger from his recent gametime and he has also collected five returns in his last five matches which shows consistency. Bailey completes my Top Three Picks for Gameweek 27.
