FPL: @FPLReaction’ Top Three Picks for Gameweek 23

With the new round edging closer we bring in Fantasy Football Community and Fantasy Football Scout contributor @FPLReaction’ (Louis) to reel off his top three picks for Gameweek 23.

Here I will give you my top three picks for Gameweek 23. There are some very obvious options with huge potential for the new round and whilst I will list them, I will also provide you with three different picks who I think could also do well.

The Obvious Options

  • Ollie Watkins (£8.8m)
  • Dominic Solanke (£7.1m)
  • Pervis Estupinan (£5.1m)
  • Cole Palmer (£5.8m)
  • Erling Haaland (£14m)
  • Phil Foden (£8m)
  • Kevin De Bruyne (£10.7m)
  • Richarlison (£7m)
  • Pedro Porro (£5.9m)
  • Jarrod Bowen (£8.1m)

Eberechi Eze

I touched upon Crystal Palace last week and talked about the fact that they had to win and they did. For me the Eagles saved Roy Hodgson’ job but that may have only delayed his sacking. Getting a result this week against Brighton could well buy him more time as they head into a wonderful period of fixtures.

Brighton are going to be tough this week but tough in a sense that it will be difficult to get a positive result. However, it may be less tough for Crystal Palace to score goals based on the 4-0 pasting Brighton received from Luton in the last round.

Once again, Eberechi Eze (£6m) walks into my top three picks. Since his massive 14 points in Gameweek 22 his ownership hasn’t risen as much as I would have expected. This could because he is flagged in the app but his manager confirmed that taking him off was just a precaution. With penalties, set pieces, confidence and a defensively vulnerable opposition I think Eze could be amongst the returns again this week.

James Maddison

I think we need to take Tottenham seriously this season. I also think many were expecting them to calm down from an offensive perspective. However, the way coach Ange Postecoglu sets up makes me believe their free-flowing attack will continue to produce.

Tottenham face a meeting with Everton this week, a team who have won just one of their last nine matches in all competitions. I honestly don’t think it matters who they face anymore. I mean, not one team has stopped them from scoring in the Premier League this season and there is a reason for that.

Whilst many question how reliable Richarlison is long-term and when Son will become an option again some could look to James Maddison (£7.9m). Firstly Maddison is very likely to start every game now that he has returned from injury. The midfielder is also a very effective asset with multiple routes to points. Maddison marked his return from injury with an assist and a seven-point return and in my opinion we should expect more returns this week.

Leon Bailey

It’s a trio of midfielders this week for me who make the cut. Although, I also felt like players including Elijah Adebayo (£4.8m) of Luton and Christopher Nkunku (£7.4m) of Chelsea were close to taking up this last slot.

Aston Villa are a team who can produce goals, it is as simple as that. They have proven this by sitting fourth best in the league for goals scored so far. Now some of the reasoning behind this next pick is of course the fact they face a poor promoted side. But Sheffield United are also the same team that halted the relentless home form of Aston Villa when they last met. I think because of that, revenge will play a major part.

Now Ollie Watkins is the standout option but Leon Bailey (£5.7m) also has huge potential. The Jamaican has produced two returns in his last three matches so he has recent form backing him. I also think he comes in at the kind of price-tag we may all need moving forward whilst having fantastic long-term fixtures.
