FPL Experts Ahead of Gameweek 9

Last modified date

We caught up with some FPL experts ahead of Gameweek 9. The experts included cover a range of different topics from chips and the best players to player and team form and more as we head into the new round.

Catching up with the FPL experts ahead of Gameweek 9 could be both fun and insightful. The experts cover some of the key topics ahead of the new round which could help bring clarity to some of the decisions we have to make in our own teams.

Andy made light of controversy during Gameweek 8. Many were undecided with what to do with Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka (£10.1m). Saka picked up an injury during the international break so deciding whether to keep or sell Saka was a key consideration ahead of the deadline.

News broke that Saka wasn’t even in the squad for the clash against Bournemouth, a game of which his side eventually lost 2-0. Liverpool lay ahead for the Gooners next, with Newcastle and Chelsea immediately after. With that in mind, the FPL community could be looking to bring in the likes of Chelsea’s Cole Palmer (£10.8m) or Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min (£9.8m) to replace him.

FPL managers were flocking to Tottenham assets ahead of their lovely run of fixtures. It all started with a clash against fellow London side West Ham. Spurs dismantled the Hammers in a huge 4-1 victory and players like Son Heung-Min and midfielder Dejan Kulusevski (£6.2m) were rewarded for their goal contributions.

Two popular assets in midfielder Brennan Johnson (£6.6m) and striker Dominic Solanke (£7.7m) failed to get amongst the returns. But, with an inconsistent Crystal Palace side ahead, it may be worth keeping both at the top of your shopping lists.

Another side who had huge potential in the latest round was Everton. The Toffees made it two wins in three matches and unbeaten in four after their 2-0 win against Ipswich this week.

Picking up returns included the likes of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford (£4.8m) and defender Vitalii Mykolenko (£4.3m) who managed points for the clean sheet. Midfielder Dwight McNeil (£5.7m) continued his brilliant form, picking up six points for his assist.

Arguably their most frustrating player for FPL managers though is striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£6m). Although producing a high amount of expected goals (XG), the Everton penalty taker is now four matches without a return. Many could well be considering ditching him ahead of Fulham, but could that be a mistake?

@FPLOlympian

Aston Villa continue to offer great value for money. Their recent 3-1 win against Fulham is another example of that. Scoring one of the goals was budget gem and midfielder Morgan Rogers (£5.3m). Rogers secured a goal, making it his fourth return in as many games.

Rogers isn’t the only Aston Villa attacker in form. Striker Ollie Watkins (£9.1m) seems to have found his form recently – bagging five goals and an assist in his last six league matches. A home match against Bournemouth next is a fantastic opportunity for those same assets to continue their excellent form.
