FPL Experts Ahead of Gameweek 2

Last modified date

We caught up with some FPL experts ahead of Gameweek 2. The experts included cover a range of different topics from chips and the best players to player and team form and more as we head into the second round of the new season.

Catching up with the FPL experts ahead of Gameweek 2 could be both fun and insightful. The experts cover some of the key topics ahead of the new round which could help bring clarity to some of the decisions we have to make in our own teams.

@FPLMarcin

FPL managers were welcomed back with frustration on Friday evening. Manchester United played hosts to Fulham in the opening fixture and it wasn’t until late in the game that the Reds capitalised on their dominant performance.

Although Bruno Fernandes (£8.5m) failed to contribute to his sides only goal he came extremely close on other occasions. Playing in a forward role for a large proportion of the match Fernandes missed two big chances to score. FPL managers will be hoping he can repay the faith with a trip away to Brighton this week.

@FPLFocal

FPL Focal highlighted one asset in particular this week. Liverpool became one of the most popular sides ahead of the season in terms of investment and that was largely due to their starting schedule.

One player who many struggled to fit into their sides was Mohamed Salah (£12.5m). The Egyptian was quiet in the first half against Ipswich but a goal and an assist in the second meant he finished on 14 points.

Fellow midfielder Diogo Jota (£7.5m) settled some nerves for non-Salah owners after he found the net. Meanwhile, Jarell Quansah (£4.5m) owners may be in some trouble after he was replaced at half-time due to tactical reasons.

@FPLOlympian

Many within the FPL community shared the same frustration as FPL Olympian during Gameweek 1. Newcastle were favoured to do well early on. However, an early red card from centre-back Fabian Schar (£5.5m) against Southampton meant knock-on effects elsewhere.

The above forced an early change and it was Jacob Murphy (£5.5m) who was the sacrificed. Fellow midfielder Anthony Gordon (£7.5m) also failed to produce anything of significance.

Newcastle still won the game however and contributing was popular striker Alexander Isak (£8.5m) who managed an assist. Full-back Lewis Hall (£4.5m) was also one of the beneficiaries after securing five points due to his clean sheet.

@FPLGOAT7

Some within the community decided to go against the Arsenal assets due to a tricky starting schedule. But, some like FPL GOAT kept the faith and benefitted massively.

Arsenal played Wolves in Gameweek 1 and their 2-0 victory was a stern reminder of their quality. Amongst the goals was star man and midfielder Bukayo Saka (£10m). Saka bagged a goal and an assist which helped him to a huge 12-point return.

Those who backed their defensive assets were also rewarded. Players like Gabriel (£6m) and William Saliba (£6m) both picked up six points. Will non-owners panic and bring in some Arsenal assets this week or will they stay patient and see how their fixture against Aston Villa plays out?

@FPLfrasier

There was a lot of disappointment amongst managers yesterday and especially for those who invested in Brighton.

Brighton were fantastic and dismantled a tough Everton defence 3-0. However, popular £4m defender Valentin Barco failed to start the game or in fact feature which could be an issue for owners long term.

Another player who couldn’t get involved was striker Joao Pedro (£5.5m) who started and came close to returning but just could not pick up ay significant points.

Midfielder Yankuba Minteh (£5.5m) also caught the eye ahead of the game. Although Minteh registered an assist he was also hooked off just ahead of half time due to injury.
