FPL essentials from Everton v Arsenal

We take a look at FPL essentials from Everton v Arsenal. Covering who passed the eye test, the biggest returners, who topped the bonus points, line-ups, key moments, player minutes and overall implications that could affect FPL moving forward.

In a change of format from the original match report structure we now cover even more! Our FPL essentials from Everton v Arsenal will provide even more information for FPL managers to consider for their future plans.

Line-ups – Everton

It is Sean Dyche’s first match in charge of Everton as he names his first starting 11. He will be hoping to improve the form of his main striker Dominic Calvert Lewin (£7.9m) who has picked up just one return all season.

Line-ups – Arsenal

New signing Jorginho (£5.8m) fails to start the game for his debut. Another new signing who doesn’t make the starting 11 is fellow midfielder Leandro Trossard (£6.7m). The Belgian has been kept out by Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Martinelli (£6.7m). Many within the community will be hoping his form picks up before their double Gameweek in the next round.

Key moments – first half

  • The first half gets underway.
  • Everton started the game well and compact defensively. They also looked dangerous during set pieces.
  • Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah (£6.7m) has a fantastic opportunity to score but blazes his shot well wide (31st minute).
  • CHANCE! Dominic Calvert-Lewin comes so close to connecting with a great low pass across the six-yard box after a darting run from midfielder Amadou Onana (£4.8m).
  • CHANCE! Everton are piling on the pressure. Midfielder Dwight McNeil (£5.1m) finds space to send in a looping cross from the wing. Midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure (£5.3m) has a free header but it’s a poor one and misses the target.
  • CHANCE! Everton defender Seamus Colman (£4.4m) pings in a brilliant cross finding Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s head in front of the Arsenal goal. His header spins wide of the goal. That was another great chance for Everton.
  • The whistle blows for half time.

Key moments – second half

  • The second gets underway.
  • Arsenal started the second half with much more intensity and are becoming increasingly dangerous.
  • There has been a significant change as Gabriel Martinelli leaves the field of play.
  • GOAL! Everton turn their set piece strength into success. Dwight McNeil sends a cross in from the corner and centre back James Tarkowski powers the ball into the goal with his header! It’s 1-0 to Everton!
  • Everton defender Vitalii Mykolenko (£4.3m) receives a yellow card for his foul on Arsenal midfielder Bukayo Saka (£8.2m).
  • Amadou Onana picks up a yellow card for his foul on Arsenal defender Ben White (£4.7m).
  • Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford (£4.4m) receives a yellow card for his infringement.
  • The match finishes and Everton win the match 1-0!

Which players passed the eye test?

  • Dominic Calvert-Lewin definitely caught the eye today. His hold up play was brilliant and managed to turn long balls into dangerous attacks. Not just this but he also got himself into some great positions to score.
  • Everton as a team looked far stronger overall under new manager Dyche. The Toffees were quicker than Arsenal to most balls and stood strong all of the way through the match.

Who returned the most points?

  • James Tarkowski claimed a massive 15-point return with his goal and clean sheet being the main contributors.
  • Seamus Coleman earned a cool eight points because he kept the clean sheet.
  • Dwight McNeil hit seven points after creating the assist.

Who topped the bonus points?

Minutes

  • Ben White started the match after some concern he may not.
  • Gabriel Martinelli played just 59 minutes.
  • Dominic Calvert-Lewin played 62 minutes.
  • Arsenal midfielder Martin Ødegaard (£6.9m) played 76 minutes.

Overall FPL implications

  • Many within the community have considered replacing Gabriel Martinelli since the arrival of Leandro Trossard and that could be even more justified after the Brazilian came off before the 60th minute.
  • Ben White starting against Everton means managers could be even more tempted to bring him in for their double Gameweek ahead.
  • Everton look a lot stronger under Dyche and FPL managers could show hesitance when looking to target them in future. Furthermore, the strong Everton defensive performance makes their FPL defensive assets much more appealing moving forward.
