FPL: @dmpwright’ Team Reveal for Gameweek 21

The Premier League season continues so we look to the new round. We bring in Fantasy Football Community and Fantasy Football Scout contributor @dmpwright to give you his FPL team reveal for Gameweek 21.

As we approach any given deadline, managers will be scrambling for clarity on some of the biggest decisions in the game like transfers and captaincy. Taking a look at @dmpwright’ team reveal for Gameweek 21 could benefit other managers when making those decisions.

Gameweek 21 Team Reveal (subject to change)

Notes

  • GW20 was pretty unsuccessful for me. I benched Cole Palmer and transferred in and captained Julian Álvarez over Mohamed Salah. All of which resulted in a red arrow down to an OR of ~305k.
  • There have been a few developments since I shared my bus team. One of these is the news that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be out for “probably three weeks”.
  • Charlie Taylor is also a doubt due to a knock picked up in Burnley’s FA Cup defeat to Spurs and Lascelles is no longer starting for Newcastle. Because of this I may be forced into a defensive transfer this week.
  • Pervis Estupiñan has been on my radar for weeks. He is my number one target should Taylor be ruled out of GW21. Trent isn’t a hard sell if you own him. If he is only out for a few weeks then he could be back by the time Liverpool play their GW22 fixture, which isn’t until 31 January.
  • Perhaps the biggest piece of FPL news at the time of writing is that Erling Haaland seems unlikely to start against Newcastle. Kevin De Bruyne has also stated he doesn’t expect many starts in the coming GWs.
  • The Haaland news, in particular, is good news for my team. It earns Álvarez a stay of execution in my team and, with only one free transfer, I can fully focus on patching up my defence and/or replacing one of Salah or Son.
  • Liverpool beating Arsenal in the FA Cup Third Round increases their chances of playing twice in GW25. For that reason, my current preference, if I make a midfield transfer, is to replace Son over Salah. Hopefully we get more information about a potential DGW25 ahead of the next FPL deadline. If Liverpool play twice in GW25 then I may keep Salah and bench him for the duration of AFCON.
  • With Jarrod Bowen potentially set for a period on the side-lines, my favoured replacement for Son is one of Phil Foden or Diogo Jota. Foden probably shades it for me; while both are xMins risks (particularly Jota with Cody Gakpo in the mix), there suddenly don’t seem to be too many other stand-out midfield picks. I’m also happy to chase the upside at my current OR.
  • Elsewhere, the rest of my team is thankfully looking pretty settled. With so many premium players missing for GW21, captaincy is once again up for debate. It could also result in yet more hefty points swings.
  • I currently have the armband on Bukayo Saka, with Palmer and Richarlison also in the mix.
