Notes
- At the time of writing, I’m on a slight red arrow with the Thursday night fixtures in GW19 still to play. However, I have five players in those fixtures, including a couple of low-owned picks. I’m still hopeful of recording a fourth consecutive green arrow heading into GW20.
- After several weeks of surgery, I’m now relatively happy with the core of my squad. With Pep Guardiola indicating that Erling Haaland is unlikely to return until January, I will probably roll my free transfer. This is with a view to GW21. There two will likely be needed to remove Mohamed Salah and Son-Heung Min. Both players are due to depart for AFCON and Asia Cup, respectively.
- In goal, Alphonse Areola will replace Martin Dúbravka for the first time since GW16. This is due to Newcastle United’ slump in form and tough run of fixtures.
- William Saliba, Gabriel and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was one of my GW19 transfers, will once again line up in defence.
- Jamaal Lascelles’ time in my team is probably over now that Sven Botman has returned to the Newcastle United XI. The returning Pervis Estupiñan and Malo Gusto appeal should I decide to transfer out Lascelles. Although it’s definitely not a move I need to make this week.
- In midfield, Cole Palmer will return to the starting XI. He will join alongside Salah, Bukayo Saka and the Spurs duo of Son and Richarlison, who was my other GW19 transfer.
- One of Salah or Son will likely be my captain. Son is currently shading it by virtue of his slightly weaker opposition – at least on paper. Although Bournemouth are much improved under Andoni Iraola, particularly in recent weeks.
- My forwards for GW21 will once again be Ollie Watkins and the in-form Dominic Solanke, with Cameron Archer having to settle for first sub. There has been some talk in the FPL community of transferring out Watkins following a couple of frustrating blanks. Personally, it’s not a move I will be making. Aston Villa’s upcoming fixtures and general form are good enough to hold Watkins. Also, there aren’t many standout replacements outside of Darwin Nuñez (if you can stomach the move) and Julián Álvarez, whose FPL stock will quickly drop once Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne return to the fold.
