FPL Community Reactions to Gameweek 23 (Saturday)
The FPL community is in disaray after the opening match of Gameweek 23, where much-captained Emmanuel Dennis began and ended his Double Gameweek with a red card against Norwich. The Canaries won 3-0, pushing Claudio Ranieri towards a surprise sacking. No?
Saturday lunchtime saw Lucas Digne quickly revisit his former club Everton and, naturally, he bagged a clean sheet, assist and all three bonus points as Aston Villa won 1-0.
The 3pm team reveals saw Cristiano Ronaldo named in Man United’s starting XI, despite the cryptic words of Ralf Rangnick. Yet all three matches were goalless at half-time and, quite frankly, lacking anything mildly interesting. Although a drone did stop Brentford vs Wolves for a while!
Things picked up slightly in the second half, with late winners for Newcastle and Man United via Jonjo Shelvey and Marcus Rashford. Finishing much later was Brentford 1-2 Wolves. There was some joy for owners of Vladimir Coufal – who was replaced before West Ham conceded – and Ivan Toney.
Southampton took an early lead over Man City thanks to Kyle Walker-Peters, quickly wiping clean sheets from Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte etc. Numerous managers have multiple City defenders and were particularly annoyed at the goal. However, Laporte equalised in the second half from a Kevin De Bruyne assist as the match finished 1-1.
