FPL Community Reactions to Gameweek 22 (Saturday)

After Gameweek 22 began with the Friday night draw between Brighton and Crystal Palace, Saturday lunchtime gave us Man City versus Chelsea. Team news saw Ruben Dias and Mason Mount named on their respective benches.

A gritty 0-0 with very few chances eventually saw the deadlock broken in the 70th minute when Kevin De Bruyne picked out the corner from just outside the box. The assist? Joao Cancelo.

The three afternoon kick-offs involved highly-owned Watford strikers Emmanuel Dennis and Josh King, plus Everton assets Demarai Gray and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The Toffees continued to unimpress by quickly going 2-0 down to Norwich thanks to a Michael Keane own goal and a second from Adam Idah.

Wolves took a 1-0 lead over Southampton thanks to Raul Jimenez’s penalty, added to by Conor Coady and Adama Traore in the second half to finish 3-1. The huge match down the bottom between Newcastle and Watford looked set to be a massive Magpies win, until a late Joao Pedro equaliser broke many Tyneside hearts. Despite Richarlison grabbing an Everton consolation, Norwich held on for a crucial three points.

Before these games reached full-time, big news came from Man United’s visit to Aston Villa – Cristiano Ronaldo wasn’t deemed fit enough to be in the matchday squad, frustrating the many who had captained him for this Double Gameweek.

But a fair percentage of FPL managers used either their Free Hit or a Mohamed Salah sale to take a punt on Bruno Fernandes – instantly rewarded with a sixth minute goal.

Soon after getting booked, Fernandes made it 2-0 and sent his new owners into delirium. There was still a twist to be taken though, as the debut appearance of Philippe Coutinho from the bench inspired Aston Villa to pull the game back to 2-2. Jacob Ramsey scored, before assisting the Brazilian loanee. Just like that, David De Gea’s clean sheet was gone and a new bandwagon was about to take off.
