FPL Challenge Season Review

The final balls have been kicked and points totalled. We can now look back at the season, with our FPL Challenge season review.

@FPLReaction provided his top picks and team reveal for each and every round of the recent season. Now that the campaign is done and dusted, he looks back.

Gameweek 38 Review

FPL Challenge Season Review
  • Gameweek 38 is done and we are finally at the end of the campaign.
  • The season ended on a high mostly due to Jarrod Bowen captain. Originally, I was going to captain Mbeumo, but the fact I captained him in FPL forced a change of heart.
  • Outside of Bowen’ haul, my team didn’t really do much at all. Gvardiol was my only other play to return.
  • Originally I had Saka in my team, but because he wasn’t in the starting XI I decided to go for a punt in Gabriel Martinelli. Arsenal only squeezed past Southampton and Martinelli did nothing at all.
  • Overall I finished the round with 50 points and a round rank of 19k.

Final Rank

FPL Challenge Season Review

I ended the season ranked 822nd, which I’m very happy with overall. Albeit, I was around the top 200-300 at one point, and then it all came crashing down towards the latter stages.

All in all though, I think top 1k would have been the aim. I would have been a lot happier with top 500, but I really can’t complain.

Favourite Challenges

My FPL Challenge Season Review should definitely include some rounds I actually enjoyed, so let’s take a look.

Ball winners was a good Challenge for me. I got 36 points but it was a good round rank.

This was where I genuinely felt my research was rewarded. Ndiaye was leading every other striker for interceptions, and he did very well. At one point I had a bit of a thing for captaining Porro, which didn’t always work out!

‘Economise’ also went my way. A tight budget meant squeezing in Salah with picks like Hall and Rogers which didn’t pay off. My Chelsea bias also led to Joao Felix who failed.

Joao Pedro and Kelleher were successful though and it helped me to 90 points with an 8k round rank!

‘Big Spender’ was one of my finest rounds of the entire thing. As well returns from Bowen and Saka, I captained Palmer against Spurs who raked in a whopping 72 points against Spurs. That was definitely my biggest captain return of the season for sure.

Team Chemistry was massive for me. I managed 164 points with a round rank of 2k.

I enjoyed this one a little more as I went for Maresca and Chelsea. Players from the same team as the assistant manager earned double points so I got as huge haul from Chelsea assets. Palmer was my big let down here.

The rest of my team also returned, in fact they all did. This was probably my best overall round.

Final Thoughts

Overall I enjoyed playing FPL Challenge this season, it was different and allowed me to make different moves than what I did in my FPL team.

However, I do think it can improve in several areas. I thought the Challenges in which we could pick 11 players were the best. It just meant there were more swings and more decisions to make. The issue is there just simply wasn’t enough of those type of Challenges.

A lot of the Challenges involved picking a five-man squad for a lot of weeks, especially towards the end of the season. If felt like they just ran out of ideas towards the end.

Earning double points for specific stats was fun. It meant actually researching the best type of players at that specific stat and picking a side based on that.

FPL Challenge has potential, but they need to get a bit more creative with Challenges.

Overall though I thought it added something a but more fun to my normal season, so let’s hope they continue and improve that next season.
