FPL Challenge Gameweek 7 Tips and Team Reveal

Last modified date

In this article we take a look at FPL Challenge Gameweek 7 As well as picking out some of the best players for the round ahead specific to the Challenge structure we also bring in @FPLReaction to share his team and thoughts ahead of the new round.

FPL Challenge Gameweek 7 is here. With exciting new badges to earn and prizes to win FPL Challenge have made some massive changes. With that in mind our tips and team reveal could be exactly what you need to have success.

What is the Challenge this week?

The Challenge for Gameweek 7 is ‘Asia-Pacific’.

Challengers will receive double points for Asia Pacific players. You can also select non Asia-Pacific players.

The Best Asia-Pacific Picks

With no playable Asia-Pacific goalkeepers available this week Challengers will have to settle with a non Asia-Pacific asset between the sticks. This is also similar to the Asia-Pacific defender bracket with the only playable option being Southampton’s Sugawara Yukinari (£4.5m) who faces a very tough fixture against Arsenal.

With the above in mind. Challengers looking to take advantage of the Challenge this week will have to focus on Asia-Pacific attacking players, of which there aren’t many either.

However, one of several standout available attackers is midfielder Kaoru Mitoma (£6.6m). The Japanese international has produced a goal contribution in three of his first six matches this season. Mitoma arguably has a good home fixture against a Spurs side who have kept just two clean sheets this season.

Many will likely own Spurs midfielder Son Heung-Min (£9.9m) if fit. Tottenham go into the game against Brighton ranking amongst the top two sides in the league for total attempts on goal, shots in the box and big chances so far. Brighton have also shipped six goals in their last two matches so it could be a good opportunity for Son to pick up his third double-digit haul of the season. Son failed to start the last match due to fatigue so be sure to monitor the line-ups this week.

Another player who is going to be a popular Asia-Pacific pick this week is striker Chris Wood (£6.2m). Nottingham Forest have failed to score in a Premier League game just once this season so go into their Gameweek 7 clash in good goal scoring form. Chelsea away may appear a tough game on paper but the Blues have conceded at least two goals in three of their six league games this season. Penalty taker Wood has been in solid form this season – netting three times already.

One more Asia-Pacific attacker some may consider is new Crystal Palace signing Daichi Kamada (£5.2m). However, based on the fact he has failed to secure a single attacking return in the league this season and has a tough fixture against Liverpool, he may be worth avoiding.

Non Asia-Pacific Top Picks

The lack of Asia-Pacific players may be frustrating. But, there are plenty of non Asia-Pacific players to choose from this week.

Challengers need a goalkeeper this week so David Raya (£5.6m) could fill that role. The Spaniard has a lovely fixture at home against newly promoted Southampton. Other goalkeepers with great fixtures include Brentford’s Mark Flekken (£4.5m) against Wolves and Manchester City’s Ederson (£5.5m) who faces Fulham at home.

Defence is another key position that may need attention due to the lack of non Asia-Pacific options available. As well as clean sheet potential Arsenal centre-back Gabriel (£6.2m) has proven attacking threat going into his match against the Saints. Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.1m) could be another popular pick due to his elite distribution stats and clash with an out-of-form Crystal Palace.

Two more options to consider, amongst others, are Manchester City’s Rico Lewis (£4.7m) and Tottenham’s Pedro Porro (£5.5m). The former clashes with Fulham after registering an assist in midweek and Porro faces Brighton.

Whilst there may be several Asia-Pacific attackers to choose from this week there are several other non Asia-Pacific options we should not ignore.

One player who should always be considered is Manchester City’s Erling Haaland (£15.3m). The Norwegian added an 11th goal to his season tally in midweek and faces a ropey Fulham defence up next.

Meanwhile the Southampton fixture is a fantastic one for the Arsenal attackers. Penalty taker Bukayo Saka (£10.1m) goes into the game after scoring against PSG in the Champions League. Teammate Kai Havertz (£8.2m) was also on the score sheet, he could be another great striker option.

Crystal Palace have been far from convincing defensively this season and Liverpool penalty taker Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) could take advantage of that considering his form.

One more player who shouldn’t go unnoticed is the explosive Cole Palmer (£10.7m). The Chelsea talisman bagged a huge four goals in one half of football during his previous Gameweek. Although impressive when it comes to the underlying defensive data Nottingham Forest have been leaking goals.

@FPLReaction Team Reveal

  • I’m taking full advantage of the Challenge this week as all three of my attackers are Asia-Pacific assets.
  • I’m keen on the Arsenal defence this week. After leaking a goal against Leicester this week I feel they will focus on keeping things tight at the back. Because of that I have opted for David Raya and Gabriel. Gabriel also offers huge attacking threat from set pieces.
  • Facing each other this week I have decided on Son Heung-Min and Kaoru Mitoma. I think we could see plenty of goals this week and both could be involved.
  • In the forward line is Chris Wood. I’m still sceptical of his potential this week against Chelsea. For that reason, there is still a chance I bring in Erling Haaland.
  • If Son doesn’t start then I’m probably going to bring in either Cole Palmer or Mohamed Salah to replace him.
  • Captaincy is currently on Son, but I’ll probably also consider Mitoma, Haaland and Salah if any of the latter two come in.
  • If you are interested check out my Gameweek 6 review below.

Gameweek 6 Challenge Review

  • I assumed my team was template last week but apparently it wasn’t. I finished on 39 points and my round rank was 18k surprisingly.
  • It was a good week overall, I got my two midfielder picks, forward and captaincy right. There was a huge lack of options at the back but I could have gone with Calvin Bassey who got the clean sheet.
  • Captaincy also went well, I was between Salah and Mbeumo for the armband but decided to stick.
  • Semenyo also scored who I considered, I would have had all three midfielders if I could but I guess that was the big decision.
  • My overall rank now is 26k, so I’m creeping up slowly.
