FPL Challenge Gameweek 5 Tips and Team Reveal

Last modified date

In this article we take a look at FPL Challenge Gameweek 5. As well as picking out some of the best players for the round ahead specific to the Challenge structure we also bring in @FPLReaction to share his team and thoughts ahead of the new round.

FPL Challenge Gameweek 5 is here. With exciting new badges to earn and prizes to win FPL Challenge have made some massive changes. With that in mind our tips and team reveal could be exactly what you need to have success.

What is the Challenge this week?

The Challenge for Gameweek 5 is ‘Only players from the Americas’.

Challengers can only select players who are from the Americas. This is the second round of Challenges, this one is named ‘International Series.

Top Picks – Goalkeepers

There are just three eligible goalkeepers that could play this week and the best of them may just be Alisson (£5.5m). Liverpool have a lovely home fixture against Bournemouth this week and after picking up three cleans sheets in their first four matches the Reds could well add to that.

Another standout option between the sticks is Emiliano Martinez (£5m). Aston Villa go into their next match off the back of 3-0 away win against Young Boys. Wolves lay ahead who are yet to win any of their first four matches.

Defenders

It’s slim pickings in defence this week as well. One option who stands out is Antonee Robinson (£4.6m). Fulham have a home match against Newcastle this week which could see clean sheet potential for the Cottagers. If not then the American also offers attacking threat after managing back-to-back assists recently.

Tottenham are another side yet to convince defensively this season. However, they also have a home match which could increase their odds. Brentford could pose a threat to the clean sheet but even if that is the case centre-back Cristian Romero (£5.1m) has proven attacking threat. No defender in the league can better Romero’s five shots in the box this season.

Other defenders who have awkward defensive fixtures but have multiple routes to points include Arsenal’s Gabriel (£6m) who scored in his previous match, he faces Manchester City, and Crystal Palace’s Daniel Munoz (£5m) who has a meeting with Manchester United.

Midfielders

Liverpool will be hoping to bounce back from their 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest this week. The Reds go into the game leading the way for total shots in the box and big chances total. After failing to start the mid-week Champions League match Luis Diaz (£7.7m) looks set to start against Bournemouth. Diaz has started the season in exceptional form – scoring three goals and registering one assist.

Since failing to score in Gameweek 1 Fulham have found the net in each of their last three matches. One player producing fantastic stats is set-piece taker Andreas Pereira (£5.4m). Amongst all midfielders Pereira ranks the best for total crosses and joint second best for chances created with Kevin De Bruyne.

Southampton have been extremely poor this season but they have an opportunity to change their fortune this week. The Saints come up against fellow promoted side Ipswich who have conceded the second most big chances this season. To take advantage of that we could opt for Brereton Diaz (£5.4m).

Other viable options include Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho (£6.4m) if given a start after his exceptional midweek performance, Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey (£6.4m) if starting, and Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli (£6.9m) and Manchester City’s Savio (£6.5m) as they both go head-to-head.

Forwards

Brighton have one of the best matches on paper as they clash with Nottingham Forest at home. No side in the league has produced more attempts on goal than Brighton this season which makes investing in their frontline appealing this week. To do that, and if starting the game, we could select penalty taker and Brazilian Joao Pedro (£6.7m). Joao Pedro started the season brilliantly – scoring in two goals in his first three matches.

Its slim pickings in the forward bracket this week and Challengers may have to keep an eye on the line-ups. This could be the case for Raul Jimenez (£5.4m) as he rotates with Rodrigo Muniz (£6m) who is also eligible for the Challenge. Whoever starts against Newcastle between the two could be a very good pick.

Wolves have started the new season woefully – picking up just one point from their first four matches. However, after scoring goals in three of them there is some hope for their frontline. Matheus Cunha (£6.5m) faces Aston Villa away next up and although challenging, Aston Villa are yet to keep a clean sheet this season.

It’s unlikely that they will start but both Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez (£7.2m) and Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran (£6m) could offer massive potential if they do. Both come up against two teams who continue to leak goals.

@FPLReaction Team Reveal

  • The unlimited budget is a nice touch this week but there is a serious lack of actual options which is annoying.
  • I have gone for five players with home fixtures this week, and I think they could all genuinely get something from their matches.
  • Alisson should keep a clean sheet, Romero maybe but his aerial threat is elite.
  • Luis Diaz is probably a must this week if he starts which is why I have also captained him.
  • If Joao Pedro doesn’t start I’ll probably shift to a Fulham striker, whoever starts.

Gameweek 4 Challenge Review

  • I had another terrible Challenge last week as I picked up just 13 points.
  • Funnily enough my only return came from Ederson who managed an assist.
  • I expected big things from big at the back but that wasn’t the case.
  • My round rank was 500k but after all of the first four rounds I sit at 41k.
  • Good luck this week and be sure to keep an eye on the line-ups!
