FPL Challenge Gameweek 37 Best Picks and Team Reveal

As Challengers around the world struggle to put together an entry for the round ahead, we share our FPL Challenge Gameweek 37 Best Picks and Team Reveal to give you an edge.
As well as highlighting the Challenge framework, and the best players in each position, we also bring in fantasy whiz @FPLReaction to reveal his own team and look back on his previous round.
What is the Challenge this Week?

As we can see, the Challenge is ‘Arsenal v Newcastle’.
Players from Arsenal v Newcastle earn double points.
Challengers can pick five players, with an unlimited budget.
Top Picks
Goalkeepers

The Challenge means that even if Arsenal or Newcastle fail to keep a clean sheet, their goalkeepers are still likely to get 4-6 points, which is what most non-double point goalkeepers will return this week anyway.
Arsenal play at home this week, so naturally they get the edge over Newcastle. They have also conceded less goals than any other side this season. With that in mind, bringing in David Raya could prove beneficial, and he’s arguably the standout option for Challengers going into the new round.
For those that prefer the away side, then Newcastle’ Nick Pope could also have potential. Whilst clean sheet odds may be limited, Pope could rack up save points, which with double points, could total to a significant amount.
For Challengers who want to avoid the Arsenal v Newcastle game, then Everton’ Jordan Pickford v Southampton, Manchester City’ Ederson up against Bournemouth, and Chelsea’ Robert Sanchez versus Manchester United, could all be viable picks.
Defenders

As mentioned, home advantage and elite defensive data makes Arsenal favourites for the clean sheet against Newcastle. Their defenders offer little attacking threat overall, but you can never rule out centre-backs William Saliba or Jakub Kiwior from set-plays.
Newcastle may arguably have less clean sheet potential heading into the game, but their defenders have shown more consistency with attacking threat. One of those players is centre-back Dan Burn, who has scored and assisted in his previous four league games. Full-back Tino Livramento has also managed five returns in his last eight matches.
However, their most appealing defender could well be centre-back Fabian Schar. Schar hasn’t just collected at least one return in each of his last five outings, but he has managed two goals and one assist in the same period.
Outside of the focus Challenge match, Everton’ game against Southampton could bring success. Full-back Vitalii Mykolenko may be the best of the bunch after scoring in the previous round. Crystal Palace’ Daniel Munoz and Wolves Rayan Ait-Nouri are great alternatives facing off against each other. Another very attacking option with clean sheet potential is of course Manchester City’ Josko Gvardiol Bournemouth.

Midfielders

Arsenal have been out of sorts recently, and are at serious risk of dropping down to third. The Gooners will want to avoid that this week, and although out of form, the player most likely to prevent that is penalty taker Bukayo Saka. Saka is of course Arsenal’ standout attacker, but Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli could be great alternatives. The latter recently scored against Liverpool.
16 goals in their last six games suggests that backing the Newcastle attack, even against Arsenal, could be a great idea. Jacob Murphy is their most consistent midfielder in terms of attacking output this campaign – registering more assists than any other player thus far. Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon are also great options.
There is an array of options to pick from in midfield this week. For those looking outside of the double point options, Chelsea penalty taker Cole Palmer (£10.5m) is expected to punish a woeful Manchester United defence. Aston Villa’ Morgan Rogers v Tottenham, Everton’ Dwight McNeil against Southampton, Crystal Palace’ Eberechi Eze versus Wolves and Brentford’ Bryan Mbeumo v Fulham are also excellent options.
Forwards

The only viable forward option involved in the Arsenal v Newcastle game is Alexander Isak. Arsenal have shipped two goals in each of their previous three matches, so the Newcastle penalty taker genuinely has massive potential.
Tottenham’ awful league form and overall torrid defensive data thus far this season, indicates that they are a team to target. Spearheading the Aston Villa attack heading into the game is of course Ollie Watkins, who has produced 16 goals and seven assists this season.
Other great options include Everton’ Beto v Southampton, Nottingham Forest penalty taker Chris Wood up against West Ham, Crystal Palace’ Jean-Phillipe Mateta, and Manchester City’ Erling Haaland versus Bournemouth.
Team Reveal

- I’m not a huge fan of these Challenges as of late. Big clashes rewarding double points does make things more swingy, but I guess that’s a good thing?
- This week I’m going aggressive, practically quadrupling up on the Arsenal defence, with the help of captaincy.
- I’m not going fully kamikaze leaving out Isak and Saka just in case. I don’t want to completely tank my season in just one round.
- I could change to a back four of Newcastle, I actually prefer their defenders for attacking threat. But, overall, I think Arsenal have more of a chance at a clean sheet, and thus points across the board.
Gameweek 36 Review

- 20 points and a 96k rank round put me back outside the top 1k overall.
- I didn’t get a single return this week, even with the likes of Haaland, Salah and Saka.
- I have been in and out recently, and I think the reason for that is because I’m not being aggressive enough. It appears that Challengers around me are going all out!
- Good luck this week!
