FPL Challenge Gameweek 30 Best Picks and Team Reveal

Welcome to our FPL Challenge Gameweek 30 Best Picks and Team Reveal. In this article, we break down the top Fantasy Premier League picks and reveal our strategy to help you smash this week’s unique challenge.

What is the Challenge this week?

As we can see, the Challenge is ‘Fortified Front’. Challengers can only pick midfielders and forwards, so not goalkeepers or defenders.

Challengers can also only select one formation: 0-4-3. This means seven players, but also an unlimited budget.

Now, let’s take a look at some of the best players you can pick this week.

Top Picks

Midfielders

A match at home against promoted side Ipswich, makes their main man and penalty taker Justin Kluivert (£6.3m) stand out. The Dutchman is his sides most consistent attacking asset – with 12 goals and six assists already this campaign. You could even double up with teammate Antoine Semenyo (£5.7m), who has frustrated FPL managers recently with his form.

Crystal Palace will be a popular side among managers this week. The Eagles face Southampton next who have shipped at least three goals in four of their previous five matches. Two midfielders in particular standout, set-piece taker Eberechi Eze (£6.7m) and in-form budget gem Ismaila Sarr (£5.6m).

Mohamed Salah (£13.7m) should be top of Challengers lists for midfielders this week. The Egyptian faces Everton next, who have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their previous six matches. Liverpool will be keen on bouncing back after being ditched from the Champions League recently.

Chelsea have a home match against London rivals Tottenham. The Blues have a good opportunity to rack up goals, especially when considering they face a leaky defence next up. With question marks around Cole Palmer (£10.8m) and his fitness, who would be a great option if fit, fellow midfielders Pedro Neto (£6.3m) and Christopher Nkunku (£5.7m) could be great alternatives.

There are plenty of excellent options to choose from this week. Among the rest of them includes West Ham’ Jarrod Bowen (£7.6m) v Wolves, the likes of Phil Foden (£9.2m), Kevin De Bruyne (£9.3m) and Savinho (£6.2m) if they start for Manchester City against Leicester, and Brentford’ Bryan Mbeumo (£8.1m) v Newcastle.

Only Southampton have conceded more goals than Leicester this season, which makes them a perfect team to target. The Manchester City midfielders are evidently minutes risks, but penalty taker and the in-form Erling Haaland (£14.7m) is not. There is a big chance he won’t play due to a recent injury, so if he doesn’t play then teammate Omar Marmoush (£7.3m) could be the best alternative.

Monitoring news and the line-ups for Jean Philippe Mateta (£7.5m) could be wise. The Frenchman goes into the game against Southampton after bagging at least one return in each of his previous four matches. If starting, Mateta could be an essential for the round ahead.

Brentford continue to impress offensively. But the Bees are also very poor defensively, and the data backs that up. Taking that into account and considering how dangerous Newcastle can be, backing star striker and penalty taker Alexander Isak (£9.3m) should be a player that Challengers have in mind.

Other forwards we could consider include Bournemouth’ Francisco Evanilson (£5.7m) against Ipswich, Wolves’ Strand Larsen (£5.3m) versus West Ham, and Brentford’ Yoane Wissa (£6.5m) for his meeting with Newcastle.

Team Reveal

FPL Challenge Gameweek 30 Best Picks and Team Reveal
  • It isn’t very exciting this week is it? The Challenge does leave me wanting more. Not only does the Challenge not offer double points for a certain position or player, it also restricts us to just two positions, one formation and seven players.
  • I think my team largely picks itself, if fit then all of Isak, Mateta, Haaland, Salah and Kluivert should be locked in every team. If Haaland is out then Omar Marmoush will come in.
  • The above only really leaves three slots to go different: two midfielders and captaincy. At the time of writing I have gone for Sarr to target the poor Southampton defence, and Semenyo against a woeful Ipswich defence. I’m on Haaland captaincy, but if the Norwegian is out due to injury, then I’ll captain Salah.
  • Sarr or/and Semenyo may well switch to a starting Manchester City midfielder. I also like the Chelsea midfielders and Mbeumo.
  • Good luck this week

Gameweek 29 Review

FPL Challenge Gameweek 30 Best Picks and Team Reveal
  • I had a really poor week overall last time out, getting captaincy and most of my picks wrong, or at least the wrong outcome.
  • I managed a total of 34 points, which meant a round rank of 137k. This plunged me down to 558th in the world. It’s still a good rank, but it was quite the drop.
  • My only returns came from Haaland, but most captained him, and Bruno Fernandes, who most Challengers owned.
  • Let’s hope for a much better week ahead!
