FPL Challenge Gameweek 3 Tips and Team Reveal

Last modified date

In this article we take a look at FPL Challenge Gameweek 3. As well as picking out some of the best players for the round ahead specific to the Challenge structure we also bring in @FPLReaction to share his team and thoughts ahead of the new round.

FPL Challenge Gameweek 3 is here. With exciting new badges to earn and prizes to win FPL Challenge have made some massive changes. With that in mind our tips and team reveal could be exactly what you need to have success.

What is the Challenge this week?

As we can see the Challenge for Gameweek 3 is ‘Promoted Punt’.

Managers can only pick players from Ipswich, Leicester and Southampton.

Fixtures

Above we can see all 10 fixtures being played in Gameweek 3.

However, the only fixtures that matter are Brentford v Southampton, Ipswich v Fulham and Leicester v Aston Villa.

Top Picks

The promoted side with the best fixture this week is Ipswich.

Unlike Leicester and Southampton the Tractor Boys play at home against Fulham this week which boosts their overall appeal in terms of investment.

When looking for a goalkeeper, whoever starts between Christian Walton or Arijanet Muric (£4.5m) could be the best of the bunch. The Ipswich backline offers plenty of other options however. Full-back Leif Davis (£4.5m) will be hoping he can repeat some of last seasons form where he registered a mammoth two goals and 18 assists. Centre-back Jacob Greaves (£4m) is another interesting pick. Greaves came close to scoring against Liverpool in the first round and appears to be an aerial threat.

In attack Ipswich have several good options but the standout pick is new signing Sammie Szmodics (£6m). The former Blackburn star topped the scoring charts in the Championship last season and made an immediate impact upon joining Ipswich with his goal against Manchester City. Another player we could consider is fellow midfielder Omari Hutchinson (£5.5m) who managed 10 goals and five assists for Ipswich last season.

Southampton have had a less than convincing start after losing both of their first two matches. However, they face Brentford away from home which is easier than Leicester’s clash with Aston Villa.

For those looking for another goalkeeper option then Alex McCarthy (£4.5m) plays between the sticks for the Saints. The defender with the most attacking threat is full-back/wing-back Kyle Walker-Peters (£4.5m). An alternative pick could be centre-back Taylor Harwood Bellis (£4m).

Southampton also have two great attacking options. One of them is striker Adam Armstrong (£5.5m) who bagged 21 goals and 13 assists last season. Armstrong also takes his sides penalties. The other standout pick is midfielder Ben Brereton Diaz (£5.5m). Diaz produced six goals and one assist in the 14 Premier League matches he played for Sheffield United last campaign.

Leicester could be a good hunting ground for investors looking to take a risk this week. The Foxes play their fixture at home which could be an advantage, the issue is they face an Aston Villa side who finished fourth in the league last season.

In goal is Mads Hermansen (£4.5m) who could rack up save points. Centre-back Wout Faes (£4.1m) could also offer some aerial threat after scoring in his most recent game.

One player who could be top of managers shortlist coming into the round is Jamie Vardy (£5.6m). Vardy has huge Premier League experience and an appetite to score against the best sides as shown in his recent match against Spurs. As well as spearheading the Foxes attack Vardy is also on penalty duty.

Notes

  • Firstly I must admit sticking to the budget was extremely challenging.
  • If you were here last week (if not don’t worry, I’ll cover this below) then you will know I like to prioritise captaincy. Captaincy has changed my entire team and formation in this case. I am adamant about having Sammie Szmodics as my captain, I genuinely think he could be the only attacker capable of returning this week.
  • Including Sammie Szmodics meant going for a back two which also meant no Brereton Diaz in midfield.
  • After being forced to a two at the back I have decided to go on the attack with it. In fact, if Ipswich keep a clean sheet against Fulham then I will have three defensive returns.
  • Jamie Vardy’s recent price rise also meant being priced out of picking him so I had to settle on Southampton’s Adam Armstrong.

Gameweek 2 Challenge Review

Notes

  • I managed 63 points with a global rank of 38k overall.
  • It looks like squeezing in Haaland paid off in the end with his hattrick. It was lucky really because I was close to picking Isak and Muniz who both blanked.
  • I’m quite happy with the start of the season I have had so far!
