FPL Challenge Gameweek 16 Tips and Team Reveal

Last modified date

In this article, we present to you our FPL Challenge Gameweek 16 tips and team reveal. As well as picking out some of the best players for the round ahead specific to the Challenge structure we also bring in @FPLReaction to share his team and thoughts ahead of the new round. FPL Challenge Gameweek 16 is here. With exciting new badges to earn and prizes to win FPL Challenge have made some massive changes. With that in mind our tips and team reveal could be exactly what you need to have success.

What is the Challenge this week?

The Challenge for Gameweek 16 is ‘Bargains?’ Players costing over £6m earn double points this week. Challengers have to select 11 players with a budget of £100m.

Top Picks – Goalkeepers

The focus is on players costing under £6m this week, which means FPL managers may not have to limit themselves to buying a budget goalkeeper. With that in mind, the standout option between the sticks could well be David Raya (£5.5m). Arsenal have produced two clean sheets in their previous four matches, and come up against an Everton side who have failed to score in four of their last five matches. Some could even back Alisson Becker (£5.4m). After recovering from a recent injury, the Liverpool shot-stopper is expected to start this week. Arne Slot’ men face a home match against Fulham, and head into the game having maintained the best defence in the league thus far. There may not be any need to go cheaper than the two mentioned above, but if there is then Chelsea’ Robert Sanchez (£4.8m) have a home fixture against Brentford. Other cheap alternatives include Brighton’ Bart Verbruggen (£4.5m) against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa’ Emiliano Martinez (£5m) v Nottingham Forest.

Defenders

Arsenal’ uptake in results and general form is a positive sign they could do well moving forward. Fellow teammates William Saliba and Gabriel both come in above £6m which makes them ineligible for double points, but that isn’t the case for Jurrien Timber (£5.5m). The above is similar to the situation at Liverpool. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk both cost more than £6m. However, potentially covering whilst Ibrahima Konate recovers from his injury, is centre-back Joe Gomez (£4.9m). Gomez is the cheapest route to double points in the Liverpool backline unless Jarrell Quansah (£3.9m) starts ahead of him. Andy Robertson at £5.9m should also be at the top of your shopping lists. There are plenty more great alternatives in defence. Amongst them is Brighton full-back Pervis Estupinan (£5.1m). He goes into his clash against Crystal Palace, after registering an assist in his latest game. Some Challengers could even back Pedro Porro (£5.6m) against rock bottom Southampton this week. As well as having clean sheet potential, Porro also offers attacking threat. In fact, the Tottenham man has produced two assists and a goal in his last five league matches. Other options with good potential include Wolves full-back Rayan-Ait Nouri (£4.9m) against Ipswich, Ipswich’ Leif Davis (£4.5m) for his clash against Wolves, or even take the risk with Liverpool’ Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7m) and Arsenal’ William Saliba (£6.1m).

Midfielders

This week could be a great opportunity to jump on an in-from enabler like Enzo Fernandez (£5m). Enjoying his new role in attack, the Argentine has produced three goals and three assists in his last four league matches. He also faces a Brentford side who rank the worst in the league for total shots on target conceded. Another nice enabler is Morgan Rogers (£5.4m). Aston Villa clash with Nottingham Forest this week, which could be a good opportunity for Rogers to add to his season tally of five goals and three assists. Bournemouth head into their meeting with West Ham, having won all three of their last matches. Full of confidence and playing a ropey Hammers backline could offer an opening for Antoine Semenyo (£5.7m) or Justin Kluivert (£5.5m). The former has produced more attempts on goal than any other in his position, whilst the latter takes his sides penalties. The lack of convincing options in the £6m bracket amongst midfielders could mean backing the likes of either Chelsea’s Cole Palmer (£11.1m), Liverpool’ Mohamed Salah (£13.3m) or Bukayo Saka (£10.5m). Some may be able to fit in two, or even all three, but if not then based on upcoming opposition, Palmer could take priority.

Forwards

Ipswich remain a great team to target defensively. The Tractor Boys have conceded the second most big chances in the league this season which Strand Larsen (£5.6m) could take advantage of. The Norwegian will earn double points this week due to his price-tag, and could reward Challengers based on his recent form – having managed four returns in his last six matches. Brighton penalty taker Joao Pedro (£5.9m) should also be a serious consideration, but only if he doesn’t rise in price. The Brazilian has registered an impressive five attacking returns in his last five matches, highlighting a great run of form going into meet with Crystal Palace. Ipswich’ Liam Delap (£5.6m) and Leicester penalty taker Jamie Vardy (£5.5m) both also earn double points this week. The former faces the worst defence in the league next up in, Wolves, and the latter has returned at least once in his last three consecutive matches. For Challengers not totally convinced by the under £6m forward bracket, then there are plenty of options to choose from. Brentford’ leaky defence could be a great chance for Nicolas Jackson (£8.2m) to get back amongst the goals and assists. Tottenham forward Dominic Solanke (£7.5m) should also be a consideration against a poor Southampton backline. Another great option is Newcastle’ Alexander Isak (£8.6m). 19 points in his last two matches suggests he goes into his fixture against promoted side Newcastle in great form.

@FPLReaction Team Reveal

  • This is my current set up.
  • I found it quite difficult this week to build a team I’m really happy with. Finding balance between the sub £6m options and the more pricey options was interesting.
  • Fitting in Palmer and Salah felt important this week, although I’m less convinced on Saka, but he could well still come in if I get cold feet with either Semenyo or Kluivert.
  • Captaincy is currently on Enzo Fernandez. Chelsea are currently scoring more goals than any other side and Enzo is in great form and playing in a great position. Double points for a Chelsea attacker seems like a cheat code, and that multiplies even more when you add captaincy.
  • I also really like double Arsenal defence this week against Fulham.
  • Overall I’m quite happy with the overall team.

Gameweek 15 Challenge Review

  • Overall it was an excellent week, one I was very happy with. I finished the round with a huge 133 points, and rose up to 1.3k globally.
  • I don’t want to be that guy who complains, but I did have Bruno Fernandes in ahead of Rogers originally, and also played Digne. For some reason, I saw that Digne wasn’t starting and thought I had swapped him, it turns out I didn’t.
  • I guess the goal is to now breach the top 1k globally.
  • Good luck this week!
