What is the Challenge this week?

FPL Challenge Gameweek 15

The Challenge for Gameweek 15 is ‘Big Spender?’

Players costing over £9m earn double points this week.

Challengers have to select 11 players with a budget of £100m.

£9m+ Player Focus

FPL Challenge Gameweek 15

Only seven players have a price-tag costing more than £9m and those players include: Manchester City’ Erling Haaland (£15m), Kevin De Bruyne (£9.4m) and Phil Foden (£9.1m), along with Liverpool’ Mohamed Salah (£13.1m), Chelsea’ Cole Palmer (£11m), Arsenal’ Bukayo Saka (£10.5m) and Tottenham’ Son Heung-Min (£9.8m). Unfortunately, Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins (£9m) falls just short of the price limit.

The first player you should be considering this week is Mohamed Salah. Liverpool head into their next game against local rivals Everton, having won a huge eight of their last 10 games. Helping them achieve that is Salah, who has been in explosive form – racking up an eye-watering 58 points in his last four matches due to six goals and three assists.

It may also be worth prioritising Cole Palmer. Chelsea clash in their London Derby against Tottenham, who are severely depleted in terms of defensive personnel. This could be an excellent opportunity for the in-form Palmer to add to his nine goals and six assists he has already accumulated this season.

Arsenal appear to have recaptured their previous excellent form in the previous three matches. As well as winning all of those matches during that period, they also netted a huge 10 times. Amongst the goals was of course Bukayo Saka, who many should prioritise. Saka goes into his meeting with Fulham off the back of three goals and four assists in his last four matches in all competitions.

Three players from Manchester City, as mentioned above, are eligible for double points this week. Pep Guardiola’ men clash with Crystal Palace. The Eagles have been hugely inconsistent recently – winning just one and conceding two or more goals in three of their last five matches. Whilst Phil Foden is flagged due to injury, both Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne are very likely to start the game.

Many may not be able to fit in Haaland due to his price-tag, and for those that don’t want to prioritise his hefty price-tag then Kevin De Bruyne could be good coverage. The Belgian picked up a huge 14-point haul in his previous match, re-sparking his season after returning from injury.

Challengers can’t just pick £9m+ players in their team this week. So, with that in mind, lets take a look at some other great picks for Gameweek 15.

Goalkeepers

Arguably the best goalkeeper option this week is Caoimhin Kelleher (£4.6m). Liverpool rank top amongst all sides for total clean sheets this season, and they take that record into a game against Everton, who have failed to score in four of their last five matches.

Aston Villa could be another great side to invest in this week. Unai Emery’ men meet with bottom of the league Southampton. The Saints rank amongst the worst sides in the league for multiple attacking metrics, which suggests Emiliano Martinez (£5m) may have potential.

Other goalkeeper picks who could do well this week include: Arsenal’ David Raya (£5.5m) against Fulham, Bournemouth’ Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.5m) v Ipswich, and Brighton’ Bart Verbruggen (£4.5m) as he faces Leicester.

Defenders

FPL Challenge Gameweek 15

The fact Everton have failed to score in four of their last five league matches is a huge concern for them. However, it’s also a huge indicator that Liverpool have clean sheet potential this week. Trent Alexander-Arnold (£6.9m) could become a major target for Challengers this week, especially given his attacking potential. However, a much cheaper route into Arne Slot’ backline is Joe Gomez (£4.8m), who is likely to fill in for the injured Ibrahima Konate again.

Aston Villa could well keep a clean sheet against Southampton this week. As well as playing at home, a venue they are significantly stronger at in terms of performances, they also face a poor frontline. The standout pick if starting is Lucas Digne (£4.7m), who continues to maintain brilliant distribution data. But, Challengers aiming to go cheaper and safer in terms of minutes could look to Ezri Konsa (£4.4m).

There are plenty of other defensive options you can back this week. Amongst them is Manchester City’ Rico Lewis (£4.7m) if he starts against Crystal Palace, Arsenal’ Jurrien Timber (£5.6m) and William Saliba (£6m) against Fulham, and Brighton full-back Pervis Estupinan (£5m), he faces Leicester.

Midfielders

FPL Challenge Gameweek 15

With the more expensive options earning double points, it will be extremely important to bring in some budget picks to enable them. One of those budget priced gems is Morgan Rogers (£5.3m). The Saints, who Aston Villa face next, rank amongst the bottom two sides for total goals conceded this season. Rogers goes into the clash off the back of scoring against Brentford in the previous round.

Bournemouth are another side we should consider this week. The Cherries have recently beat Manchester City and Tottenham, showing how good they can be. This week they face an Ipswich side who have conceded more big chances than any other side this season. One player we could consider to try to take advantage of their defensive instabilities is penalty taker Justin Kluivert (£5.4m). Another strong consideration should be Antoine Semenyo (£5.7m). No midfielder has had more attempts on goal than him this season.

Two more great midfield picks playing poor defences this week are West Ham’ Jarrod Bowen (£7.4m) who faces Wolves and Kaoru Mitoma (£6.5m). Both players have returned in their last three games.

Forwards

FPL Challenge Gameweek 15

Brighton have a lovely fixture against Leicester this week. The Foxes rank amongst the worst three sides for metrics like total attempts conceded and total shots in the box conceded. One player who may benefit from that is Joao Pedro (£5.8m). The Brazilian comes in nice and cheap, enabling the rest of the team. But, he is also in top form – having managed five attacking returns in his last three league games.

Scoring four goals and creating four assists in his last 10 matches, Evanilson (£6.1m) has become another great pick in the Bournemouth attack. As mentioned, Ipswich are the worst in the league for big chances conceded. This suggests that, whilst spearheading the Cherries frontline, Evanilson may benefit.

Two more great forward picks this week are Newcastle’ Alexander Isak (£8.4m) and Wolves’ Matheus Cunha (£7.1m). The former bagged an 11-point return against Liverpool in Gameweek 14, whilst the latter continues to dominate distribution data when compared to all other forwards in the game.

@FPLReaction Team Reveal

FPL Challenge Gameweek 15
  • Firstly, I don’t know how they are letting us afford a team like this.
  • My current team has five of the available seven £9m+ players in my team. The only admissions are Son and Foden, and they may not even start. If Foden does start, I’m probably gong to lose Isak and bring him in.
  • In defence, I have backed three teams who I think could keep a clean sheet. The Liverpool double up at the back is nailed. I prefer Gabriel to Saliba usually, but I’m not sure if the Brazilian is fit enough to start.
  • One other player who feels essential this week is Ollie Watkins. He faces the worst team in the league, and goes into the clash in form.
  • I feel well set up for the new round here. I still can’t believe I can fit this many good players in!

Gameweek 14 Challenge Review

  • I had an ok week last time out. I ended the round with 67 points, and a round rank of 26k. This pushed me from around 6k up to 3.9k, which I’m very happy about.
  • The biggest successes were obviously the likes of Palmer and Salah. Annoyingly, I had Salah captain, right up until the deadline in both Challenge and FPL.
  • I originally had Colwill, but saw he wasn’t starting and ended up on Disasi. It was a toss up between Tosin and Disasi, but the latter has more attacking threat, and displayed that by scoring last week.
  • Rogers and Pedro also did well, but the Manchester United assets didn’t do well at all. In fact, I’m lucky I didn’t go even heavier on them.
  • I have no target for this week, I’m still surprised I’m in the top 4k already.
  • Good luck this week!
