What is the Challenge for Gameweek 6?

Top Picks

Goalkeepers

FPL Challenge Best Picks and Team Reveal – Gameweek 6

One of few goalkeepers who meet the parameters of the Challenge is Robin Roefs. The Leeds man has impressed between the sticks, and faces a Nottingham Forest side who are struggling to sustain form early on.

The only other goalkeeper both eligible for double points and likely to start is Brighton’ Bart Verbruggen. The Seagulls come up against Chelsea away from home, so although clean sheet potential could be limited, Verbruggen could rack up save points.

There are several viable goalkeepers outside of the Challenge limits this week, including Spurs Gugielmo Vicario who faces Wolves, and Manchester City’ Gianluigi Donnarumma up against Burnley.

Defenders

One option Challengers could consider this week is Riccardo Calafiori. Playing for one of the best defences in the league, the Italian has also already racked up two assists and a goal – proving he has attacking threat. Newcastle away isn’t an ideal fixture, but Calafiori has multiple routes to points.

Manchester City face newly promoted Burnley in Gameweek 6, so it could be an excellent opening to keep a clean sheet and bank points. Likely to start in Pep Guardiola’ backline is Croatian Josko Gvardiol, who could well be best of the bunch this week.

We are yet to see his attacking threat this season in the league, but Milos Kerkez could be another great option. Liverpool meet with the same Crystal Palace side who edged them in the Community Shield. The Reds are in relentless form though, so don’t be surprised to see a clean sheet from them.

Nottingham Forest’ Murillo versus Sunderland, West Ham’ El Hadji Malick Diouf up against Everton, Manchester United’ Leny Yoro versus Brentford, and Chelsea’ Malo Gusto for his meeting with Brighton could also be viable picks.

We also have to remember that defenders outside the Challenge could also have success, like Bournemouth’ Marcos Senesi v Leeds and Tottenham’ Pedro Porro up against Leeds.

Midfielders

Being active around the time line-ups release will be absolutely critical to selecting your midfield this week and there isn’t really a way around that. Lots of the best options aged 23 and under are either a rotation risk or have an injury doubt.

The biggest name eligible for the Challenge is Cole Palmer. The Chelsea penalty taker faces a home match against Brighton this week, but reported groin issues could see him miss out. If on the team sheet come Saturday afternoon, he could be one of the best options heading into the round.

Tottenham’ home match against Wolves could see huge success for their attackers. Wolves have started the campaign extremely poorly, so remain a team target, and that is where new signing and Dutchman Xavi Simons comes into the fold.

Manchester City could really punish the Burnley defence this week. Whilst starting the season impressively, the newly promoted side have still displayed defensive frailty. Again, line-ups will be key, so if starting, any of Jeremy Doku, Savinho and Oscar Bobb could all have huge potential.

Liverpool’ Florian Wirtz up against Crystal Palace, Aston Villa’ Morgan Rogers v Fulham and Nottingham Forest’ Elliot Anderson have lacked in terms of output this season, but still remain options.

For those who don’t want to concern themselves with the line-ups or the Challenge parameters then Manchester United’ Bruno Fernandes v Brentford, Mohamed Salah of Liverpool v Crystal Palace and Bournemouth’ main man Antoine Semenyo up against Leeds could have success.

Forwards

It’s slim pickings up front for Challengers looking to take advantage of double points. One player who does catch the eye though is Liverpool’ Hugo Ekitike. Rotation could be a concern, but the Frenchman has already produced three goals and one assist in just five Premier League starts.

Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko v Brentford and Everton’ Thierno Barry for his game against West Ham are two other options worth considering. However, looking out for line-ups before selecting them could be crucial.

Many may look outside of the Challenge for a striker this week though. This is especially when considering Erling Haaland faces a newly promoted side. The Norwegian has started the season excellently – scoring six goals in just five matches.

There aren’t many convincing options this week though, Chelsea’ Joao Pedro v Brighton and Tottenham’ Richarlison up against Wolves could be alternative options.

Team Reveal

FPL Challenge Best Picks and Team Reveal – Gameweek 6
  • Wow it’s so tough to build a team I like this week! This may be the toughest Challenge of the season so far.
  • Not only is it tough picking players who can earn double points due to injury, rotation etc, but it’s also awkward to select just one player from each team.
  • Anyway, this is my team so far, let me go through it.
  • Roefs is locked in my team for his match against Forest.
  • As tempting as it was to pick a Manchester City defender, the limit prevents that, so if Murillo is fit and starting I’ll pick him for his home match against Sunderland and just hope they find form.
  • Midfield is also difficult. Xavi is probably the easiest pick of the lot. Palmer will be my captain if he starts. If not then I may move to Garnacho or Estevao, whoever starts for Chelsea. Captaincy would then move to Xavi.
  • I don’t really like any other midfielders who don’t play for Chelsea and Man City, so I have gone for Semenyo. He won’t earn double points this week but he could still do well against Leeds.
  • I used my Man City slot for Haaland, who could have a field day against Burnley. He may be a shout for captaincy, even without double points.

Gameweek 5 Review

FPL Challenge Best Picks and Team Reveal – Gameweek 6
  • I threw all of my eggs into one basket last week – taking full advantage of double points. It didn’t really work though as you can see.
  • My only significant return came from Salah who I captained, but he only got an assist.
  • I ended the round on 42 points which was a round rank of 103k. This meant a drop to 1.8k in overall rank.
  • I’m ready to bounce back this week, but it’s going to be a tough one, watch for those line-ups and set alarms!
