With more than any other in game, Moises Caicedo sits top of the pile for defensive contributions so far this season (96). This has helped him reach an impressive total of 45 points in FPL so far. A large portion of those points was also due to his three goals scored.
Ranking joint second, Nottingham Forest’ Elliot Anderson continues to produce defcons at a high rate. Although the case, that hasn’t always translated into points – with just 22 from the first seven matches. He also bagged just one attacking return during that same period – which has raised question marks over his offensive threat for FPL managers.
Joining Anderson on 89 defcons is Sunderland’ Granit Xhaka. Unlike both Caicedo and Anderson, the former Arsenal man continues to prove his creativity for the Black Cats – having registered three assists already – contributing towards his 32-point tally.
Dominik Szoboszlai also features in the top 10. The Hungarian international has played multiple roles for champions Liverpool this season. As well as filling in at right-back, Szoboszlai has shown his ability to play in a number 10 role. However, his free-kick goal against Arsenal is the only attacking return he has produced this campaign.
In at ninth and a player many within the FPL community have and still look to for a source of points is Bruno Fernandes with 75. Fernandes may be racking up defcons, but with two goals in his first seven matches, owners will be hoping for increased attacking output very soon.
Which midfielders are picking up the most defcon points?
Below, we can see midfielders ordered with the best defcon success rate. This basically means how successful midfielders have been when it comes to hitting the defcon threshold and picking up points.

Newly promoted Burnley seem to feature heavily among the most successful. Whilst Florentino Luís does hold a 75% success rate for hitting defcon points in all but one of his matches, he has only been involved in four of his sides games.
Teammate Josh Cullen leads the way among players who have played all seven of their sides early fixtures. Cullen has collected 10 points for hitting the defcon threshold in five of his matches. His largest defcon haul came in his most recent outing against Aston Villa where he produced 20.
Both Moises Caicedo and Granit Xhaka both come in with a 57.1% success rate, after hitting defcon points in four of their matches. What is interesting about the former is that he produced 11 in each of his previous two matches – missing out on points by just one defensive contribution.
Two other names we should mention who don’t appear among the most successful players is Dominik Szoboszlai and Bruno Fernandes. Both have managed to hit the defcon threshold in just two of their first seven matches.
